I don't like kids, don't trust strangers, so I keep the door locked, lights off, and pretend I'm not there. Once in a while some dummy ring the bell then beats on the door, and when I dont answer they leave.

Bunch of fuddy duddies and paranoid people here. I went trick or treating every Halloween up till about 10th grade. Wore a costume as well since I think that's the rules. I couldn't care how old you are, if you're in a costume you deserve some candy. Not in a costume is just lazy. Of course this was in Southern California and Arizona. Maybe times have changed, or maybe Texas just isn't as friendly. If so the world has just gotten a little sadder.

I tried to once, but it gave me a MAJOR case of indigestion, so they are now part of my diet along with other spicy foods!!!

A while back (8 or 9 years ago) we were warned by the local LEOs, that some older trick-or-treaters were ringing the door bell and then committing a pushin type home invasion. From then on I dress up for holloween to answer the door bell. I dress up as a cowboy. My six shooter is made by Colt and it isn't loaded with caps.

I've thought of simply sitting on the front porch, big Ruger Blackhawk in a crossdraw holster, wearing "cowboy" gear, with the light off and a shotgun leaning against the wall. See who comes by and frightens.  It's pretty much a guarantee that, with the porch light off, no kids would come to the door; brazen teens and troublemakers (who'd make good on the "tricks" part) wouldn't be so deterred.

We haven't handed candy out in years, though, and I'm not sure I want to freak out the neighbors or the cops with "Man with a GUN" reports. Probably won't do it, but it sure is funny to think of potential TP-ers high-tailing it when they realize the "cowboy mannequin" isn't a mannequin!
