Just curious. In a heat of the battle, what makes you think you'll remember what's in the chamber? I don't know about you, when your adrenaline is pumping, you lose 50% of your thought process not to mention your finely tuned motor skills. I sure as hell won't remember what kind of ammunition is in the chamber.

I have to agree with whoever said they use their handgun as long as they need to in order to grab a shotgun!! My pistol is merely a stepping stone, I would feel much better when I had my 870 in my hand. I once heard that the human body was not designed for holes and one should shoot what they are comfortable with and have some chance of hitting their target. I have a variety of guns, but choose a 9mm for home defense because I seem to have the fastest sight recovery and overall accuracy. I am comfortable with it and usually have it loaded with the popular hollow point of the month, whatever that may be......I believe it is currently gold dot. Just my opinion.
