I have Verizon. Where you have normal service, it will work and just bills at minutes used at your regular rate.
With CellularOne, I get unlimited internet fairly cheaply, and use bluetooth to get the laptop online through my Nokia. Transfer rates are comparable to my 256k connection at home. The bonus being that when I don't have the laptop handy I can still surf and check email on the tiny phone screen.

Well, its working, but its kinda funny that I found this little "flip-out" extension antenna on the air card...
Its an "Option GT Max 3.6 express" air card...
I'm not getting much, but its enough if I don't internet window the heck out of it...Email is working, but I am afriad to send or try to receive large attachments...
Just kinda playing with it, and am going to look for the additional antenna/booster thing later this week(end)...
Other than that, can anyone make sense of why a salesperson/technician would say to me that the card needs about a week to "settle" in and work better (speed-wise)???
That to me make no mechanical/engineering/computing sense...Its either going to work at full throttle right out of the gate, or not...
BTW, one of the techs told me I have to turn off all mu firewalls, both Windows and PC-cillin Security 14 incoming and outgoing security filters to allow the air card to work correctly...
So far its going well, but I am not so sure about all of this...Thoughts???

BTW, I am hitting a 91 to 95 dBm strength in a windowless basement office cubicle farm...FYI...
I'm not sure if thats good, I see there are a few more bars I could fill up, but I am not sure how to boost the strength other than get the antenna/booster extension for the air card here...
Other than that as long as I do not multi-task too much and open too many browser windows and big emails...I think thats about all I can do at this point...

I say this in relation to what my Maw had to do with hers. she had an "extra" firewall on, and had to completely uninstall it. but turned the Windows firewall on. works just dandy.
as far as making it faster, I dunno.

Friend of mine at work has a Verizon "card" that has this little "adapter" that further connects to a long wirelike antenna...He's getting full strength reception and capability (with all bars indicating full capability)...His connection to the aircard he has is a bit different, but at least there is hardware available to some systems that give you this added "boost"...
I still need to find a similar setup for the card I have, but the ability to contact and find out if I am on the right track with the manufacturers is a bit challenging...Its a company across the pond...grrrrr...
The search goes on...

Not to be a downer, but I would go with Verizon as the network of choice - so far, they have the fastest consistent speed.
