Just remember, "If someone is out to get you, 'paranoid' is just good thinking."

I just went down to the DPS office with my daughter to get her learner's permit, the lady that checked my record (we're doing PTDE) kinda hiccuped when my record came up but didn't say anything. Now I know why. On the MDC's here in Dallas it used to say, "***WARNING***This person is licensed to carry a concealed handgun and may be armed." or something similar. It was the "WARNING" that stuck in my mind as a dig to CHLers.

Texas requires two plates
Texas Transportation Code
§ 502.404. Operation of Vehicle Without License Plate or Registration Insignia.

(a) A person commits an offense if the person operates on a public highway during a registration period a passenger car or commercial motor vehicle that does not display two license plates, at the front and rear of the vehicle, that have been:
(1) assigned by the department for the period; or
(2) validated by a registration insignia issued by the department that establishes that the vehicle is registered for the period.

txinvestigator wrote:DPS only lists the CHL on your Driver License record. It is not in TCIC/NCIC, and an officer will only find it if he runs a DL, what we called a 10-27.

A department CAN program their computer system to run a DL with every warrant check, and good dispatchers will always cross refererence the different databases when time allows.

Your friend needs a new tin foil hat.
the problem with that is in order to put the new TF hat on you have to take the one you're wearing off. That opens you to risks. One could put one hat over the other and then take the one beneath off but that would be a deadly mistake. The two hats at the same time serve to actually amplify the radionics and make you light up on big brother's radar like a Numian Twinkle Berry.

What you actually want to do is put on a RSTF hat (Radionics Shielded Tin Foil) first and then swap them.

I just happen to sell those btw.
$49 each.

They are required in Texas. However, IMHO, this law does not seem to be enforced much. I have had a few cars with no front plate, and even though I have definitely been stopped several times for various traffic violations, I have never been ticketed for no front plate. Just to be safe, I would fix it, though.

Most LEOs won't tell you to get a front plate or write you for not having one. It gives them PC to stop you at anytime. It's even better than those H.E.A.T. stickers that are placed in your back window giving LEOs permission to stop the vehicle without PC.

For example - I'm patrolling a neighborhood that has had a tremendous amount of BMVs during the late night or early morning hours. If I see a vehicle without a front plate pulling out of an alley at 4 AM, I don't have to follow them until they have committed some moving violation of the TC so that I would then have PC to stop them. Because of the no front plate I can stop them right then and there.

Plus, it takes time to go the the county tag agency and get replacement plates - most people won't take the time to do it especially if they're only getting stopped and not ticketed.

I hadn't really even thought about those H.E.A.T. stickers. I bet that can be a pain for the actual owner too. I've made about a million trips to Wally World from between 2:00 and 4:00 when my wife was pregnant. Apparently, when you need cookies and cream ice cream, you need it BAD. I'm glad I didn't get pulled over!

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a H.E.A.T. sticker?

Based on auto insurance rates in Harris County, I assumed the E stood for Encourage. :grumble

I've learned another good way to make sure you get pulled over. Put a bunch of performance part stickers on the back window of your car, and make sure the exhaust is really loud. It worked in high school!
