Geez; remember when Sharpstown used to be one of Houston's crown jewels? How times change. Sharpstown Shopping Center, which was already in bankruptcy, lost Finger's Furniture early this week, Macy's (Foley's, sigh) about a week before that, and today the news made it official that the entire center is up for sale...and probably a fire sale.

I love shopping at Harwin St., but I wouldn't go without my "gang" and I certainly wouldn't go without my weapon.

I've never had a problem there, but you do run across characters that make you go hmm.

West of Gessner. It's called WestChase.

I had an office at Westheimer and the Beltway until 2005. I've spent some time in that area.

The rape and shooting went on Friday was near Gessner and Harwin. You must be thinking about West park that runs thru Royal Oak. WestCase is full of Apartments. I grew up in the SW area. It's not getting any better.

Can you point to news reports of this event? There are too many rapes and shootings in Houston.

I think it's helpful to look at the underlying facts of these cases.
A 30-year-old man was charged today with the murder of his roommate and the aggravated sexual assault of a woman his roommate was dating, police said.

Jason Bernard Russell, was charged in the shooting and killing of 30-year-old Deval Andrews, who was found dead Friday morning in the backseat of a car at the men's southwest Houston town home in the 9800 block of Pagewood, authorities said. He was charged with the sexual assault of a 24-year-old woman.

The three had gone out Thursday night to celebrate the woman's birthday. When they returned about 3:30 a.m. Friday, ...
Maybe, just maybe, if people don't hang out with losers and get drunk, they will avoid a lot of trouble. Those principles have served me well for decades.

This kind of garbage can and does happen everywhere.

"Garbage" often cleans itself up in appearance and language to fool the victim. There are many rape victims that didn't know they were out with garbage.

Harwin is full of culture! Kimberly dragged me there when we first started dating and I enjoyed myself. I would not want her going there by herself, but with a group of friends it would be alright. There are definitely worse places in Houston!

Be aware of red light cameras.

Be situationally aware for criminals and cheap knockoffs.

As stated Sharpstown is the pits. Stay away.

Agreed, safe as long as it is light out. Avoid at dark, even the resturants. There is a vietnamese gang problem (or was) and one of my favorite Pho soup places was shot up. Daytime, pretty safe. I heard sharpstown mall was shut down (or fixing to) thankfully.

Sharpstown mall shut down Jan 8th. Wonderful news. It's the kind of place where everyone is packing heat, 1% of them legally.

Agreed, westchase is pretty affluent. But I don't know that westchase goes that far south? West of the beltway on Briarforest is one of the largest Katrina evacuee's spots. Anyone familiar with those apartments at wilcest and briar forest know what I mean. I lived in Briar Grove near seagler and westheimer in 79' when I was a little kid.
