Ture or false? I heard this from a somewhat credible source.
False. If you want to be theoretical, everything that moves wears because friction is never eliminated 100%, but as a practical matter, no. I've got 2K rounds each through two different GLOCKS. No issues or noticable wear. Save your money IMHO. Bazillion discussions of this on Glocktalk if you want a second opinion.

Anyone know of any stores in DFW that sell Glock aftermarket parts? (ss guide rods, mags, slide locks, etc...). I know there are tons of web sites but I like to buy in my local area if I can.
Get the mags and some sights. T.R. Graham is at the gunshows and can install the sights. Don't try to make it a 1911 by loading it down with aftermarket parts.

Probably from the guy that wants to sell you the guide rods???
One glock, one guide rod...Thousands of rounds...No appreciable wear and tear on the original rod in that gun...About 9 years of abuse on it too...
Now you got me paranoid...Going to have to go look...geesh...
Welcome to the dark side, I shall complete your training, and together we can rule the galaxy!!!

I have a 1911 and a g22. If doomsday happens, the glock would be on my hip, and the 1911 would be in my bug out bag.

I grew interested in Glocks after seeing one field stripped. The beauty of simplicity ensnared me.
As perfect as John Moses Browning's basic designs are I have a feeling that if he came back today HE would pack a Glock.
Of course he'd also be in collaboration with them and would have improved it by now.

Big gun show going on this weekend in Fort Worth. You will find anything want or need for a Glock.

When my finger hits the trigger it is never an accident
To quote who ever that guy was on Black Hawk Down was "my finger is my safety sir"

Congrats!! When I first started carrying I had about $800+ worth of custom work done on my Springfield GI Champion (cmdr size). I carried it for awhile but then switched to a G19. I like the fact that there's no external safety and it will go bang everytime I pull the trigger (1911's are extremely reliable too). I don't care if it gets sweaty and scratched etc, whereas my 1911's are pretty much safe queens now (I'm sorry guys but it's true). I still take 'em out to the range, but there was just something about carrying an expensive gun that steered me to a $400 Glock. You also sacrifice some size, but I think it's something I can live with. I like the higher capacity mags and I actually carry full size G17 mags in my G19. This also freed me up from carrying 2 additional 1911 Wilson mags. I do miss the feel of the 1911 trigger and I do actually shoot a little bit better with my Springer. Hence another expensive holster to the box-o-holsters (Milt Sparks VM 2 and no I don't wanna sell it).
I also agree with a previous post on the SA XD. If your looking for a Glock-like pistol with a slight 1911 feel you might like an XD. The grip angle is similar to the 1911 and they even have the grip safety. As to your mentioning after market guide rods etc, my experience has been less than stellar. I purchased a tungsten guide rod and I liked the additional weight on the muzzle, but I was having feed problems like crazy (I wasn't limp wristing it either). Not sure why or if I need a gunsmith to fit something, but I basically gave up on it after a short while. I think the only thing I might change on my Glock(s) would be some of the extended controls like the mag release and slide lock. Other than that, my Glocks pretty much stay stock. I inherited a couple (17 ported and 17L), won a G26 in a drawing, bought the G19 from a co-worker and finally a G21.
Hope you enjoy your new piece and if you figure out anything on the guide rods please post your findings.

Me to. I never thought I would own a Glock but after getting my G30 I have to say it is one sweet gun

Now I need to get a G23. Might have to trade my XD-9 for one.

In my safe, in order of quantity, are 1911s, Glocks, SA XDs, and then several one-off others (Kahr, Seecamp, S&W, Ruger, etc.). They all coexist nicely.

It takes me a couple of minutes of dry-fire to get used to the Glock grip angle; really doesn't require adjustment to go back to the 1911s.
And before the Trivia Police find me:

That was Eric Bana playing Sgt. Norm Gibson (Hoot).

Don't worry... they work right out of the box.

yes, I went over to the dark side and invested in Combat Tupperware (TM) as well
:-)
Its no hi-power or 1911, but there's just something about a Glock :-)

I have been a switch hitter with 1911s and Glocks for many, many years. I find no problem tranistioning from 1911s to Glock and back. They just feel different and one's mind just has to get right with the system I am carrying. El No Problemo to just get one's mind and body right with the gun.
