I agree with your point about Not forcing people to "clean up" before letting them in the door of a church. I know the people who handled the incident and I trust their judgment. This young man had followed the youth minister from his last church, so the two went back several years. The decision was made based upon the safety of the other youth that also attend. It was in no way due to how he dressed or anything superficial. He had many problems that he refused to address and was very belligerent. It seemed to get worse as he got older. The youth minister is the type of guy that would bend over backwards for anyone and had invested years with this young man.
Great, I'm glad to hear it!

I apologize if I sounded accusatory. I just wanted clarification, because I know churches who lift their noses at anyone smoking in the parking lot, or who has been seen going to the movies, or just hanging out with people who dress funny.

If churches were only for Saints they would never let me in. I am a Christian, a Promise Keeper and I KNOW I am a sinner......

I heard a comedian say once, and it is true, that you shouldn't expect perfection or saints in church.....after all, you don't go to a hospital and find people bragging about their health

Oh, we had a little discussion on different Bible translations, including the King James (KJV). The thread got locked and we were told to play nice.

Oh I see.

Well if the King James Version was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for me.

Just joking, I'll stay away, but I could not resist that.

As already mentioned, different church's make decisions in different manners.

In the Adventist Church, the "Church Board" would be called upon to review the question at hand. In this case, we would also bring the matter before the members of the congregation and ask that it be voted upon by ballot. It would be a "courtesy" to the members, because the Church Board (elected by the members) does have the authority to make decisions for them.

I have been a Church Board Member and Deacon for many years, I have seen Three pastors come and go, and the issue has never come up. We trust our fellow members and respect ALL of their rights, so...its just not a problem.

I don't personally know of any church, of any denomination, where "carry" has been an issue. At least.. around these parts!
