You can put the gun underwater and start shooting when you pop out as opposed to having to wait for water to drain out of the di system before you can shoot. It's cleaner and you can run more rounds in between cleaning. Personally I went with the di system since it had less moving parts and it has worked and been trusted for the past 30 years.

I don't really see the underwater capability as a bonus worth spending the extra money on. I have shot a few rifles in the rain, but never underwater. I'm no seal by any means...so in my eyes that is a moot point and not a justifiable benefit.

I agree, but it's still a perceived benefit for some out there. Hey you never know when the mall commando needs to get into the water fountain for some clandestine zombie killing.

I spent countless hours on researching which AR I was going to purchase and I started with these criteria

(in no specific order):
- cost comparison
- company reputation
- user feedback and reliability
- cost
- chrome lined barrel
- 1:7 or 1:9 twist
- dedicated .223 vs 5.56
- M4 feed ramps
- staked Castle nut
- cost
- accessories included Ie.. BUIS, REMOVABLE CARRY HANDLE, PICATINNY RAIL, COLLAPSING STOCK Etc...
- Warranty
- cost
And then the cost of a build Vs buying off the shelf

After all was said and done I opted for the S&W M&P Magpul edition and haven't looked back. I paid somewhere around $950.00 + tax on sale OTD.

Granted I've customized it but it's still a awesome and fun "Black Rifle"

You do realize that you asked this question in response to a post that's 3 1/2 years old, right? It has been almost 2 years since austin logged in last.

This can be done after you put your single point adapter (if you go that route) so its not as critical to purchase it that way.

Yeah, but if its your first AR and youre just learning about them MHO is that it's just easier to get one that it is already done... but, it has to be done correctly. So, if youre looking to buy "off the shelf" might as well educate yourself what a Caastle Nut is and where, how and why it needs to be staked as well as what it looks like when done right and done half way. Thats all I was getting at...

I think there is something about building you AR that makes it so much more personal
