Now I'm absolutely certain that no one reads my posts.

Jack Fuselier has been hard nickel plating the Kel-tec slides for years and charges $30.

That price is actually for members of KTOG, but a smooth talker could probably get him to honor it.

I read it now. :smilelol5: It looks like to LCP's are off for a trip. I hope the turn around is not a year.

I used to carry a Colt Officer's ACP IWB, but almost every day I'd see signs of rust -my conversion to Glock came when I did the same carry routine with my Glock 27. I would literally have to wipe down the Glock at the end of the day with drops of sweat all over the slide, but no signs of rust at all. Frankly, this is what a daily carry gun needs to be able to do for me -if I must go through a detailed regimen to care for my daily carry pistol, then I will soon be tempted to leave it at home :waiting:
Except Glock's smallest pistol is considerably larger and heavier than the LCP. From what I can tell, the smallest model is the G28, also in .380.

LCP vs. G28

Length: 5.16" vs. 6.29"
Height: 3.6" vs 4.17"
Width: 0.820" vs. 1.18"
Weight: 9.42 oz vs. 18.66 oz.

I'm sorry if this seems harsh, but "Get a Glock" isn't a useful suggestion. Glock doesn't even make a pistol that approaches the concealability not to mention the affordability of the LCP.

As for other suggestions, The nickel slide plating may be a possibility, but that still doesn't address the issue of the barrel rust, which is the more severe damage anyway. I suppose the barrel itself could be chromed, though I'm not sure if that would alter the reliability of the gun or not.

As for the concerns that everyone else's guns are going to rust away in their holsters....
Please realize that this occurred after 3 consecutive days of outdoor work in the sun and temperatures in the upper 90s. I was sweating a lot, and had the gun in my 5.11 Holster Shirt underneath a work shirt. This is certainly different than pocket carry or even proper IWB holster carry, as the gun was in a fabric enclosure directly below my armpit. It sat there like that for a good 10 hours a day, probably in constant contact with sweat after the first few hours. I certainly beleive that this would not have happened at all had I been pocket carrying, or in an ankle holster, or certainly a purse (as mentioned above). In fact, I carried the LCP the same way the day after removing the rust with several hours of outdoor work again, and did not find any additional rust on the gun. This seems to be more a case of the effects of extended exposure to an inhospitable environment. I have carried the gun every day and cleaned it once since and it is still going without any problems. Once I get a hold of a pocket holster, I expect this to never be an issue again. If I'm going to be sweating profusely for an extended period of time, I will certainly be carrying in a manner that isn't bathing the gun in sweat - just as I would expect would be reasonable with any other firearm.
