The only thing I'm aware of when "methadone" and "maintenance program" are used together is treatment for opioid addiction.
Yep. I was thinking the schizoid part could have been a late manifestation. But being in a state run methadone program for 4 years, would certainly been a no go in Texas.
Ø resist

Take away the second first, and the first is gone in a second.

We don't know how many shots he fired, although we do know that a single shot struck all three people, so it could have been just the one (it probably was just one shot fired, otherwise they couldn't conclude so quickly that a single shot caused all three injuries).

It's also clear from the photo that he took some pretty good licks to the face, which can justify deadly force in response. Everyone here remembers the Gordon Hale and Kenny Tavai incident, right?
If it turns out he was defending himself, will they bury the follow up story?
If you can read this, thank a teacher. If it's on the internet, thank a geek.

My FIL has his CHL, and probably shouldn't. When my husband found out he was a bit perplexed. The man has a history of mental illness, and yet he was issued a CHL. He's extremely bi-polar and has been institutionalized twice that I know of. It's a scary thought that this man has license to carry a gun, though that probably wouldn't have stopped him. He just got it for bragging rights.

Kitty,

That is a tough one. If you reported him, he might get in some trouble. But any person who has been institutionalized would make me nervous to know he was packing. If he had any other mental illness that made him see manifestations, bad bad things could happen.
