I recently purchased an XD40 for $419 brand new at a gunshow about a month ago. I LOVE the gun. I still intend to have a trigger job done, and night sights installed, but I haven't done it yet. I don't like the trigger pull on the gun as it stands right now. This is the first polymer pistol I have ever owned, but I have shot Glocks before. I enjoy the XD more.
I carry it quite often in my MTAC, and even after long days walking in the heat it doesn't bother me. I feel much more comfortable carrying it than I do my Kahr PM9 (Because of size, caliber, and amount of rounds).

AJ's Sports was selling the basic models for $415 at the Pasadena gun show yesterday and they came with the XD gear package.

I bought my xd-9 from them at a recent gun show in feb. love the pistol. I went in with my mind set on a g23 but after holding it I went with the xd. hasnt had any malfunctions with a few hundred rounds through it and the 17 round capacity is comforting.

I would say the negatives of carrying the XD SC are that it is heavier and wider than some of your other options.

It's also possible to get a pair of drop-in parts from Powder River Precision to greatly improve the trigger reset & overtravel. No permanent alterations to the pistol that way either.

My favorite gun to shoot and carry is a Springfield Loaded Champion (1911 clone), but if I ever found myself in a situation where I knew ahead of time that I might have to use a gun, I would pick up the XD-45.
Why? Because the XD45 is almost as accurate (close enough that most shooters won't discern the difference), holds 14, and has never malfunctioned, through about 1500 practice rounds, and several different SD loads. I carry my Commander length 1911 more often because it's my favorite, not to mention that it's thinner and therefore easier to carry. My XD45 is fitted with a Clip-Draw, so the gun's extra width is compensated for by not having the thickness of a holster, but I feel safer with a holster, so I rarely carry the XD45, except for quick trips, or around the house.

When I went to San Antonio for my son's retirement we made one there too. There were several venders selling them for well under $450. The $415 to $419 area was quit common.
