If a bullet can be deflected by the surface tension in a body of water or a sheet of glass such as a windshield. It really shouldn't surprise us that a skull might deflect a bullet. I don't think a slow heavy bullet such as a 45 is any more resistant than faster lighter bullets like a 9MM

I don't have any links, but I do recall several stories where someone got hit in the noggin, and kept on floggin'.
usually the frontal bone is what will deflect the bullet, as it is significantly thicker than say, the temporal bone.
and certain demographics have thicker skull bones than others.
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.
