Re: BG shoots himself resulting in death
This happened just two streets away from me in my subdivision. Very scary that somebody would be armed and kick in a door like that. I wonder if it was a random thing. Or if there is more to the story. Seems like an awfully aggressive way to commit a home burglary. Glad the outcome was not different.
Re: BG shoots himself resulting in death
I'd assume any home invasion would be aggressive with a weapon being displayed and/or used very early in the process.bigolbigun wrote:Seems like an awfully aggressive way to commit a home burglary.
I sat on a jury a few years ago for a BG who fumbled a home invastion. When the homeowner answered the door, he stuck a handgun through the partially open doorway. The homeowner grabbed it and was shot in the hand. The BG released his grip and ran away...only to be found a few houses down trying to hide under a car. He had been on the street for less than a day (the home invasion was initiated within hours of being released from prison). Hopefully he will serve his sentence, this time around, and will be a very old man the next time he gets out.

This is the very reason I carry even while sitting on my couch in my house. You never know. I also keep not only my regular door closed and locked but also my storm doors, both front and back. It may not stop them but it will buy me a few precious seconds if I ever need it.

My storm door is NOT going to prevent a break-in but having it locked serves several purposes for us:
1) (After looking out) we can open the inner door if it SEEMS safe to talk with someone without being immediately in their grasp
2) If the "visitor" opens the unlocked door this is extremely rude, and I would consider it aggressive, but sales people and others do this sometimes and probably don't need to be shot -- if someone busts that glass on the door or rips the lock loose they have proven they are a violent criminal threat. I know it and the DA will know it.
3) Noise and delay -- if someone wants to come through that door (front or back) they must first pass the locked storm door before they can attack the inside security door. Defense in depth is almost always a good idea.
For those who think that carrying "at home" is paranoid or not necessary then remember that these are precisely the arguments you will hear from gun control advocates who propose you leaving your firearm at home.
24/7 or guess right.
If you don't want to "wear it" then position it ALWAYS near you -- the stories of Lance Thomas (Rolex jeweler who survived, and won, four gunfights) comes to mind. Sure he was at work, in a jewelry store, but most criminal attacks will happen in and around your house. Are you ready?

Question: Presuming you must be the (unarmed) victim of a criminal attack, e.g. an armed robbery, would you rather it occur:
1) In the privacy of your home
2) In a public place such as a bank, grocery/convenience store, or mall parking lot?
Where do YOU carry?
Home invasions are extremely ugly in most cases.

Re: BG shoots himself resulting in death
I don't have any youngins in my home so I have the luxury of being able to stash loaded handguns all over the house. I have a hand gun hidden in both the bathrooms I use, my bedroom, my living room and my Kitchen. I also have a handgun sitting on the end table beside the sofa when I am watching the idiot box. I found that easier to do than carrying a gun everywhere I go in the house. All are Glock 9mm and an extra clip is hidden near each gun. Somebody kicks my door down while I am in the house, it is going to get real exciting real quick.

Saying "Clips" instead of "Magazines" makes the baby jesus cry.03Lightningrocks wrote: All are Glock 9mm and an extra clip is hidden near each gun.

Oh my...I sure hope this is not the baby jesus in that picture. If it is, then baby jesus crying makes Lightningrocks want to slap baby jesus and tell him to shut up.DoubleJ wrote:

I think clips is a better word. I makes terminology nazis go crazy, everyone understands what you mean and there is no confusion with Guns and ammo or the American Rifleman.03Lightningrocks wrote: Oh my...I sure hope this is not the baby jesus in that picture. Using the word 'clips' is a suitable tribute to George Carlin, who died this week. He spoke out when the PC crowd tried to decide whatwords were proper and which weren't

not to start a huge thing, cause it isn't, I was just trying to be funny...
but anyway, I personnally see it as the same thing as calling your AR15 an Assault Weapon.
