I have a hard time seeing any justification for the BATF. I believe it is a safe assumption that the more it cost the less training these guys will get. Thee BATF kills American families because they have cut a barrel of shotguns. Just because they are for profit organization doesn't mean Blackwater isn't one of the good guys.
The BATF exist to take our guns away and to tax people for things they might enjoy. Maybe our money would be better spent if they packed up the whole BATF and sent them to Iran. There are many Americans that would sleep better at night if this happened.

So to sum the true results of the situation:
1. Blackwater will buy legal, expensive training weapons so they still will have the Automatics yet less money for training.
2. The local sheriff now has no free automatic weapons they may have a need for in the future so they will spend more tax dollars to get them when needed.
3. The full autos will be stored at Blackwater now instead of a more secure LEO facility.
Yeah, way to go BATF.

From the news articles, the sheriff said his department is "very well equipped" and had no need of any of the BW rifles. No doubt, they've received other "gifts" that they were allowed to keep.

Blackwater's agreement with local law enforcement is the moral equivalent of a black man getting a white man to hand him a cup of water taken from a whites only drinking fountain. It's a sad commentary on our society that some people consider it a crime.

Blackwater has an important function. Good training saves American lives and is a part of winning a war. As near as I can tell the BATF is sabotaging our war effort and those who are responcibale are guilty of treason and should be tried and executed as our laws prescribe.
Their actions put patriot's lives at risk.
The alternative, turning a blind eye to Blackwater, puts no less than the laws and constitution at risk. I find it disgusting that you are advocating a haphazard and arbitrary enforcement of our nation's firearm laws.
As long as it is illegal for private individuals to buy new machine guns, then it is illegal; I don't care who you are. At least this time the ATF was actually enforcing a real law. Furthermore with their money and clout Blackwater could have been doing some good work speaking out against stupid unconstitutional gun laws like the 1986 ban, but instead decided to just attempt to circumvent the law. Shame on them.

I am surprised that Blackwater wouldn't just go out and get an FFL and then the license necessary to be an automatic weapons dealer. If they did that, I think they could legally have the same weapons.

You know, this might actually turn out to be a good thing. I had long ago mentioned that I want to file the next lawsuit with it being just to open the machine gun registry. Blackwater might be a good test case for just that. If I have the individual right, then they must have the right to have the weapons to train militia members too. And, having shown the history of US contracts, their employees and training required the weapons, so they did the best they could to do so legally.
It is not as clean a case as I was going to try to set up, but I don't have the $50,000 to set it up and file it either.

You might find it disgusting. I find the whole idea of the BATF disgusting, They are an agency that has been abusive ever since they were created. Blackwaters exist to protect Americans. The BATF exist to harrass prevent Americans from protecting themselves and they will attack and kill American familys to disarm them. Blackwater will kill attacking Moslem jihadist that are attempting to move supplies to our troops. We need Blackwater. While the The BATF in nothing more than a boil on American peoples buttocks
Sure Blackwater tried to find a "legal" way to reduce their taxes and costs is that so wrong? Did they hurt anyone? Did they help anyone?
