Here is the reply I received today:

Dear Mr. S----,

CHL holders may carry firearms on the Alamo complex. If you read the
currently posted rules and regulations when you visit, you may see the
outdated version that requests CHL holders to store their weapons in the
Ranger Office for the duration of their Alamo visit. You can ignore that
because it is no longer valid (if it ever was). New signs with the revised
rules and regulations are currently being made. The new rule prohibits only
unlicensed firearms.

Enjoy your visit,

Well, isn't that a nice turnaround from what they were saying 10 years ago!

I wonder how they managed to shake up the blue blooded snoots at DTR?

Yeah, and all it took was a roll-around-in-the-dirt, bite-your-ear-off fight against TML, TAC and every major city in Texas to get SB501 passed. I wish I could believe that the caretakers of the greatest shrine to Texas liberty experienced a change of heart, but I'm pretty sure it was the change in the law that prompted the new policy.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy and appreciative of Mr. Phillips' response and attitude. It appears he didn't particularly like the "old" policy anyway.

Regards,
Chas.

Yep...

See this is why I have these heartaches about where you can and cannot carry in this state...

Whats the big deal???

We are not the problem...We are not a risk to anyone...Why can't we be trusted???

They know just about everything about us that we can stand, and then some...

The "system" polices us fairly well...

I believe its not based upon the fear of bearing guns by non-law enforcement people...It is actually more simple than that unqualified fear...

Its them (liberal/socialist/hoplophobes) seeing ordinary citizens "Empowering" themselves by carrying a firearm for the noble cause of "just because we can"...All the self-defense stuff is just gravy compared to that reality...

And they can't stand it!

So if it really is just that...Then everytime we get a chance to slam away a little bit of that "fear" wall...I say we need to get a wrecking ball everytime make sure we get it done...

All this sensitivity to the "anti" side of the argument is rediculous...It only prolongs the chance that some avoidable tragedy will occur, and that someone who might have thought about carrying a firearm, and being encouraged and empower themselves to do so, might not seek to do so...And they might have made a difference...My mind always goes back to Suzanna Hupp, and what happened to her...Thats almost all I need to remember to get me up on that soapbox...

I also know that since the anti crowd has dwindled in support from the masses, the infrastructure and money that supports it is still in place, and is still somewhat effective in throwing that monkey wrench into the gearbox...Thats just the last bastion of defiance as far as I am concerned...

Funny how the tables have turned though...

Thats why we need to keep pounding this issue into the ground, so that it doesn't remain an issue anymore...
