Folks who are are leery of the Glock and don't want to put out twice the money for an HK should consider the Springfield XD. It's an awesomely well engineered pistol with an outstanding reliability record at a very fair price.

Nope, female officer had a Glock 23 that had failure to feed. Only happend once during the firefight, but luckily she recovered fast enough from it to not to give the bad guy the chance to kill her. She ended up hitting the guy in the foot!?!?

I prefer my Glock 22 over my HK P2000SK for target-shooting. I seem to have more control.

I prefer my HK P2000SK over my Glock 22 for sexiness.

I've got a USP Compact in .40, and I wish I'd bought a 5" 1911 instead. The H&K has ONE thing going for it, and that is bulletproof reliability. It also has a crappy trigger, crappy sights, average accuracy, and it comes with H&K's U.S. customer service, which is in my experience feckless and ineffectual. I've owned the pistol for almost 2 years, and I still can't get an ambidextrous safety for it. That's a lot of money for a lot of heart ache. If I had known that almost 2 years later you still can't get an ambi-safety for it, this left handed shooter would have chosen differently. In fact, the only thing my USP has over my Kimber Ultra is magazine capacity - but since we're comparing the USP to a Glock, which has similar capacity, even that's not nearly such a consideration. The Kimber came with a crisp trigger with a light let off, superb accuracy, and flawless function. Guess which of the two is my daily carry and is sitting on my hip as I write this? (Hint: It's not the USP.)

Given the price difference between a Glock and a USP, and given H&K's crummy customer service, I don't see the USP being that much more gun - and that comes from practical experience with owning one myself.

Interesting... I've never heard of anything like that before. Ah well, maybe they received a bad shipment or something. I haven't had any problems with it. I haven't witnessed any problems with the other Glocks I've been around, and second to their Sigs, Glock is the only weapon several officers I know carry.

I think that track record is good enough for me.:thumbs2:
I hope YOU didn't get a bad shipment FightinAggieCHL! Of course, the middle of a gunfight is NOT the place to experience a malfunction with ANY kind of weapon. I wonder how many Glocks Glock makes a day? Anyone know? Compared to HK that is. Maybe that has something to do with those police issue Glocks having problems. If it can happen to automobiles it can happen to firearms as well, even I know that. I'm tempted to buy a Glock but want an HK45 first! That has to be the sexiest 45 on the market! IMO.
Kimber has 7 rounds and an HK, Glock have at least 12 in a magazine, remember more "friends" doesn't hurt, only when you run out and need more "friends"!

The Springfield XDM has 16+1 capacity in .40 caliber, a match grade barrel, and a far better trigger than either the Glock or the HK at a very reasonable price.

The earlier compact models(non-M) available in 8mm, .40 and .45 offer a design that gives you both a compact pistol and a full size gun with just a change of magazines. The .45 gives you 10+1 or 13+1 "friends." The smaller calibers have higher capacities.

Don't take my word for it - read what Clint Smith (one of the most respected firearms trainers in the country) has to say about it here.

Don't pick one up to look at it unless you're prepared to part with some money - it blows Glock and HK out of the water in features and quality at a price similar to the Glock. You can also find outstanding deals on them at gun shows. My neighbor picked up a Springfield XD compact in .45 for $359 at the spring Market Hall show in Dallas.

I really like the trigger in the Glock. It suits me quite well. Of course, if you've ever shot the S&W Sigma, you would understand that ANY other trigger would be an improvement.

I am convinced that my Glock is not a questionable weapon. I carry it often, and it has shot everytime I've taken it out of my waistband at the range without fail. I've put a few hundred rounds through it, haven't had a hangup yet. I've even tried to limpwrist it, and I still can't get it to hang fire.

Nope, my Glock is fantastic. The only thing I would consider otherwise would be a Sig, but I don't have the budget for it. Thanks for the discussion on the issue. I'm sure it's because you're just looking out for my safety, because surely the fact that I bought a Glock for personal defense doesn't impinge upon your happiness... ;-)

XD's are wannabe Glock's. I've tried the XDM trigger and it isn't that different from the regular XD line. The HK Combat Competition has a much better trigger than the XDM, IMO, and I've played with them both at the same time. HK Combat has 16+1 also in 40, Novak sights, LEM/with Match Trigger, and Jet Funnel. Not to mention you can put a threaded barrel on the HK to put a "can" on her! Can't say that for the XDM......does Springfield make threaded barrels for its XDM line like HK does for their USP line? Nope, they sure don't:
Our custom shop can install a longer barrel in the 4” and 5” regular XD models. The longer portion of the barrel could then be threaded by the suppressor manufacturer to work with the chosen supporessor. Cost would be $190 plus return shipping and handling charges.

That is for their regular XD line and not the XDM. Does anyone know if suppressor manufacturers would even thread a barrel?

If your Glock is reliable (and the vast, vast majority of them are) and you're happy with it, you've made a fine choice of a well proven weapon. When the Glock 17 (the original Glock full size 9mm pistol variant) first came out, I was one of the earliest adopters in my area of the country and I quickly became a strong proponentand I own both Glock and Springfield XD pistols today. I prefer the better ergonomics on the XD, but do not feel poorly armed when carrying a Glock.

If someone was looking for a new polymer gun and didn't know what to buy, I'd suggest looking at the SpringfieldXD / XDM as well as the Glock to see which one was the best fit for that particular user. The good news is - you can't go wrong with either one (and my happiness won't be adversely affected either way). ;-)

I'm sure the HK Combat is a fine gun.

I haven't needed a suppressor on my pistols yet, so threaded barrels haven't been on my list of must haves. My guns are carry guns, not race guns, so oversize funnels aren't my cup of tea either. However, if these things are what you want, for about twice the price of a Springfield you ought to get something more.

It just goes to show there is no "1 size fits all" with handguns, any more than there is with trousers.

Ya got me. :tiphat: The keyboard fingers apparently got ahead of the brain waves when I typed that. It was pretty poor wording, and I shoulda caught it.

Glock in 9mm is the best 9mm I ever shot. I think it should be called the original.

This argument is tired and boring. HK is an outstanding company and weapon. HK got into copying glocks about 10 years after glock came around. Did you happen to watch the glock abuse videos? Also you refuse to aknowledge being rude to the original poster. I imagine that is intentional.

I've got two more magazines of friends on my belt and the Kimber also is a .45 ACP, not a .40. So what it lacks in capacity is at least somewhat made up for in horsepower, and it more than makes up for it in accuracy. But you still haven't addressed the lousy trigger on a standard USP Compact .40 (which gun you brought up, not me), the substandard sights, the unavailable parts, and the ineffectual customer service, not to mention that it's a poor choice for the approximately 13% of the general population who is left-handed.

The USP Compact is a bullet proof pistol of barely adequate accuracy with lousy sights and a gritty sloppy trigger. It will go bang every time, but the bullet might not go exactly where you want it to; whereas the Kimber will hit whatever you point it at, every single time.

In any case, my main point isn't that the H&K is a crummy pistol, because it is not. For a right handed shooter, with a better set of sights than the factory standard, and some gunsmithing to improve the trigger, it would make a pretty good gun. I'm only pointing out its deficiencies because you've made some blanket statements about H&K's superiority to everything else out there, specifically with regard to the USP Compact in .40 S&W, which are simply manifestly not true. Take a Para P14, for instance. Now you've got a 1911, in a more powerful caliber, with a better trigger, nicer sights, and even greater capacity than your USP Compact .40. Just because a gun is pricey doesn't make it better than anything else out there, but I know that there are a lot of people who believe that teutonic engineering is the ne plus ultra and cannot be topped. As P.T. Barnum said...

...and you still haven't apologized to the original poster.
