I was not aware of any restriction on hunting with a .50 in Texas either. I based it on the legal means listed on the Parks and Wildlife site here.

Can you tell me where you found it is illegal? I don't have one and cannot see much use for it in hunting (except airplanes), so I am just curious.

Another one here (hunter ed. instructor) waitin' on the official source on that one ...

For those with money to burn, I suspect they'd make a mighty fine prarie dog gun out in the wide open spaces of the windy Panhandle where I grew up. Just hit the mound and obliterate the whole family.

Well Fellas, you may have caught me in a fib. I could have swore that there was a limit on size of round, but the more that I think about it, that restriction might the restriction on caliber for CHL holders that i was thinking of.

.50 BMG is the minimum advised self defense caliber....hence the carbine versions!

What restriction on Caliber?
For CHL testing (not for carry!), the gun must be .32 caliber or larger.

Okay, I was like, woah. I hadn't heard of a restriction on carry. Makes sense.

BigBlueDodge wrote:So fess up. Who told their wife they were going out to get some bread, and made a quick stop off at the gun show on the way, and managed to drop $10K?
Well, I was there gettin' away from the Ike debris, not out to buy bread. And I figured that maybe I needed a bigger gun for home defense...you know, at times when I might need to shoot from the second floor stairwell. And besides, heck, dove season starts today in our South Zone, so I thought I could use a new dove-huntin' rifle...

What a Barret m82 will do to a West Texas Jack rabbit at 500 yards will make you giggle all day.... (well it made me giggle most of the afternoon but I wasn't paying for the ammo)
Reasonable gun control is hitting your target with the first shot.

I believe the only restriction to hunting with the .50 BMG would be the one that says it's illegal to shoot across a roadway. I've yet to see a Texas whitetail that will keep that from happening - even shooting them longways. :thumbs2:
