I looked at the Taurus 1911 series for the longest time, since they started manufacturing them...And I probably wouldn't turn down the keys to one either if offered...

But when the day came to an end, I figured the investment had to come from something simple, something proven, something ugly yet pretty at the same time...Call me fickle...

My philosophy is simple...Keep it simple, keep it functional and keep carrying it...No matter what...If it is uncomfortable, you can try to get used to it before you totally swear off of it...I want my subconsious to make carrying become second nature, regardless of the type of rig I carry...

But I figure you're heading in the right direction in all of this, and your final decision will not become a chore...But don't listen to me, you'll make the right decision regardless...

Well, I sold my PT-111 to a co worker and bought a PT-145. I picked up a box of Federal Hydrashoks to use as carry ammo. I will try and get to teh range today to shoot some FMJ thru it and get a range report to you all

My son has one, and it'll shoot your eye out. He flat wears out bullseyes with it, and he's doing pretty good on the steel plates too. He wants to start competing with it.

I went to the Cheaper Than Dirt website, signed in and then read that CTD doesn't sell handguns. Where you guys seeing the PT 1911 sale item?

I'm late! I have a PT 145. I would suggest the Speer GoldDot Short Barrel HP (#23975). The PT145 only has a 3.3" barrel.
All the stuff you read about the performance of 45 acp ammo is based on the 5" barrel of a 1911.

It appears the biggest issue with the latest generation is the recoil spring comming out of the front of the slide and rendering the gun usless.

I have not had any problems with mine and have put over 800 rds. thru it. I've had a few jams shooting one handed, due to 'Limp Wristing'.

Fist makes holsters for PT145s.

I have heard many a tale about these handguns being pretty good right out of the box...

One of these days we might get a chance to line up all the makes and models for a side by side by side comparision...The PSC days are a good chance to get to do that...I'll throw my Springfields into that group, along with the Colts, Les Baer, Kimbers, etc etc...And I bet everyone will have a hard time picking out what works the best, because I bet they all work pretty good to begin with...It'll mostly come down to how it feels in the hand that decides what a personal favorite is...

I made it to the range. I put a box of WWB thru it and 10 rounds of the carry ammo. With the target at 15 yards, the first shot was right at point of aim. All following shots were pretty much right where I pointed the gun. I will say that with the 3.3" BBL the gun is a handful, but still very contollable. I am sure that the 1911 would have been more comfortable to shoot, but again, the concealment issue is my priority. I am happy with the PT-145. All my holters for the PT-11 will work just fine for the PT-145.

As far as CTD having the 1911 for sale, you can only get it at their Brick and Mortar facility North of Fort Worth at the junction of I-35W and 820

They don't sell handguns on their website, but they are a real store (In Brenham I believe) They are run as 2 separate businesses.

I'm glad you're happy with your Taurus, but I just wanted to point out that you can get a 1911 that will conceal just as easily as the Taurus. OTH, you would have had to buy a new holster. Anyway, enjoy your new gun. Congratulations on the purchase.
