In another thread that I can't find, Charles was talking about doing this at the TSRA meeting at the end of February here in DFW.

Don't forget San Antonio while everyone is crying for something local. I might consider the 3 hr ride (another motorcyclist here) if the weather is nice, but doubtful. Have to leave work by 3 p.m., then get a hotel for the night or something... If it was in SA though, I'd be on that like flies on ... excrement. In any case, thanks for doing this Charles!

I would like to try to schedule something between San Antonio and Austin, if that would be practical.

I think that would be perfect. Somewhere between New Braunfels and San Marcos could probably draw well from both cities, being within an hour's drive (if that hour is not between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. on a weekday!). I'll vote for New Braunfels!

Can you describe this ladies' class a little? I have a female relative who recently went through a divorce and is somewhat open to the need for self-defense, but is at best, luke warm to the idea. If this class is really focused towards this type of person, I think it could really be good for her and the 100's (1000's?) in similar situations.

It's a 2 hour drive to Dallas from here, and I would certainly attend. It's not as good as having one here in East Texas, but 2 hours isn't that bad of a drive.

I would like to do the Texas Self-Defense & Deadly Force Law Seminar in New Braunfels, Tyler, and Dallas area in the next several weeks. If I can get on the schedule for the TSRA Annual Meeting in February in Mesquite, that would take care of the Dallas area. I have to be there for a Legislative Committee meeting about 3:00pm on that Friday so we could probably start it around 6:00 6:30pm, if that would work for everyone.

The reason I named the particular seminar is to avoid any confusion with the Ladies Informational Seminar that I'm going to start doing on a regular basis.

If the New Braunfels idea for covering San Antonio and Austin together doesn't work well for folks, I can do one in both cities. Obviously, I'm trying to cover that area with one meeting and get as much mileage out of every membership dollar and donation dollar people have graciously provided to Texas CHL Forum, Inc. But if the location leaves out too many folks, then it defeats the purpose of presenting the seminar.

Do you need help finding a venue in Tyler, or is that already handled?

Thanks for a great opportunity to make a pitch for Texas CHL Forum, Inc. I want to take this seminar and a lot more throughout the State, but how much we can do is going to depend upon how many people join and support the organization. The three seminars we're talking about now are within reasonable driving distance of Houston. Going to El Paso, Del Rio or something like that will require flying and that's just not in the budget, at least not yet. I've been so busy getting ready for the 2009 Texas Legislative Session, my up-coming NRA committee and Board meetings, and getting ready for the meeting on the new "get people into shooting" project that I haven't had time to do any recruiting for Texas CHL Forum, Inc. That may not change for several weeks.

Yes a video can be done, but I have resisted several offers/requests to do them in the past. People who have attended my seminars know I'm very candid in responding to questions and I don't particularly want to see some of the questions and my answers on a YouTube video. If I'm giving the seminar on video, it would be a lot less "informative" than in a live presentation.

1) I'm definitely interested in a Fort Worth (groan, I guess I can drive to Dallas) area seminar

2) My CHL expires in November. . . when is the best time to take the renewal class? Are you saying I can goof up and take it too early? I know I don't want to be too late and have a lapse in my license's active dates.

I hope New Braunfels would draw crowds from San Antonio and Austin. It's not any longer than people driving to Friendswood from Sugar Land or Katy or Spring.

I'm just throwing this out there but would it help if someone in El Paso or Amarillo organized a local group of people who offered to buy a plane ticket and provide a meeting room at a church or something?
