We were told that it was due to the overflow of prisons and the pressure on courts. The Austin Police said we should just file it with insurance and not worry about it. Plano police gave it the same treatment when it happened on my block. Six of us got hit in the same night. Plano police refused to take fingerprints. They said pretty much the same as Austin police. Nobody cares...as long as the insurance pays up. I will admit it...I didn't care. I got to upgrade my stereo system to the newest model, courtesy of the insurance company.
Truth is they don't gather as much revenue chasing down real criminals as they do catching speeders and folks who don't wear seatbelts. Every hour an officer takes investigating real times is time they could be writing tickets and earning revenue for the city, and state.
