Is this a major problem? I was going to the store next week for an appropriate dress belt. Need a 1 1/2 for the IWB holster on order, but other than the size didn't think this was much of a concern. Is this much of a concern?

The gunbelt ones noted look excellent, but are a bit pricy unless this is a larger issue than I had anticipated.

Gun belts are thicker, stiffer, and more durable. You can get by without one, but the difference is like night and day. I've worn my Beltman belt every day for nearly a year, and it still looks brand new.

To me it was a major problem. If carrying wasn't comfortable, I probably wasn't going to be doing it much. I found a new 1 1/2 inch Beltman in my size on another forum and purchased it. It was nice not to have to wait for the long deliver time. I just thought the belt I had was good enough. This is a nice belt and worth every penny I paid for it.

A proper belt makes a big difference for me as well. I have one I use every day, for the past 4 years, and still looks, works like new. So they are high quality leather goods.

I really like the amount of adjustability in this belt. There are no pre-fab holes, just a large velcro strip which has infinite adjustability. Works perfect for me, as the belts with holes are either too loose or too tight on me. Stiffness is awesome in a gun belt. Never new there was a difference until I started using a gun belt. Pants don't drooped to one side anymore. Perfect fit for my MTAC 1.5 C-clips.

Only one problem with this belt, the buckle can dig in just a bit (gotta little belly on me ). I just put the buckle to the side a little (about 10 o'clock) and it's perfect.

I wear a 44" waist pant, and I ordered the 2x belt (44-46) and it's a perfect fit (although 44" pants are a little loose on me, I'm more like a 43" waist). The 2x would probably fit me even if I had a 42" waist. There's still a good 3" of velcro to secure the belt with. I think the difference between the Trainer and Operator is just the belt width. My Trainer belt is a 1.5" width which is fine for me. I could go to the 1.75" either way, I do like the metal buckle.

On the original question as to local suppliers to the D/FW area, is Wald's Police Supply still there? They used to be on Elm Street in Downtown Dallas...

Agree on the Beltman and the Wilderness Tactical Instructor belts. I have both and they do a great job.

I believe that the difference in the trainer and operator belt is that the trainer belt has a plastic end while the operator has a metal end

I can't see plastic or metal on either belt in their pictures (not the best pics). Both have stainless steel buckles, but the difference I see is that the operator is 1.75" and the trainer is 1.50" wide.

I think I'm going to be getting one of these. Someone posted a link to a site that has a bunch of info about all kinds of belts, and it was awesome. According to that site (which of course I can't find again), nylon belts, when reinforced with stitching and material, will never stretch out like a leather belt can or will.

At half the price of leather, it's certainly worth a shot.

Cabelas has the best prices that I have seen. Especially if you can find one in the bargain cave.

I finally got around to ordering a 5.11 Trainer's Belt from http://www.lapolicegear.com/5ta1trbe.html and it arrived yesterday (Great service, BTW.) I think It's going to do the job and I'll likely order another one in black so that I'll be properly accessorized.
