Back in my early 20s I worked at a Circle K pullin the graveyard shift down
in La Grange Texas back before the bypass took traffic around town.
Used to have all kinds of seedy lookin guys coming in, some with
their hands in their pockets lookin me over carefully making me
think that they were thinking about robbing the place.
My boss told me they would fire me if I bought a gun to work
(I told him Iwas thinking about bringing one to work)
So, I used to walk over behind the counter and I'd have my
hand under the counter so the potential perp wouldn't know
if I had a gun or not.
Several guys left after seeing me do this, while most others
would prove to not be a threat by their actions.
Needless to say, I didn't keep that job too long since
I figured if I kept working there I'd probably get shot
since that store had been robbed numerous times
before I worked there.
Everytime the local cop would come in, I'd always offer
him free donuts and coffee and try to engage him in
interesting conversation to keep him there as long
as possible
