The secret is to not let anyone (at work) get wise to the fact that you do...That is what I have found to be the secret to employment longevity...

Even more important to me is that we can't let others dictate who we are, and we can't be afraid to speak out for those things we feel strongly about, and to be the person e really are. I understand that life is full of compromises, But we can't let the politically correct dictators run our entire life.

In the teacher-fired-over-facebook-picture thread I commented how I used to keep my gun hobby top secret. Eventually though I came to feel like I had this aspect of my life I was compelled to hide out of fear of the reaction of others. While I don't walk around with a "I like guns and have a CHL" T-shirt , I now choose to proud of my interests and choices and embrace expressing my believes when appropriate.

We have a no weapons policy. My picture in daily carry is pushing the limit of what I can carry at work. That's one of the reasons I haven't got my CHL yet.

I totally understand your point, and my position and story (advice) is based upon years of thought and study...I do not consider it to be a compramise or appeasement...

If for one second I thought my life and the lives of my co-workers were at risk or in danger, I would react accordingly...And I would accept the consequences...And it is not a very hard decision to make...I'm comfortable with this position...

IANAL, but I work for about 300 of them in a large law firm. There is a no-weapons policy in the employee handbook, and we have to sign it, that includes all firm property, offsite on firm business, or even attending employee parties that are held off site. I have been slowly talking to both partners and associates who I know are CHL holders, to speak to the heads of the firm to change the language to only prohibit illegally carried guns but allow CHL holders to have their handguns. Several partners do carry, they just don't tell anyone. I can't admit to carrying, but I take public transportation and some times work late at noght or on weekends. My life is worth more than my job.

And that's the point, really... what is the purpose of the rule? Because someone who intends harm won't be deterred by the rule. The only effect of such a rule is to disarm and cut protection of law abiding employees. Brilliant.
