Okay,
I'm sorry, I'm the one that took this thread off track and hijacked it. Didn't mean to do that. In fact...I thought that gun WAS a 50 caliber. Back to original post.

The guy in the picture at the top looks like the caveman from those Hanna Barbera cartoons from the 70s. So what I'm understanding is...the caliber of this gun is something just under .357. (the original post said 8.##) Since 9mm is just a smidge under .357, the 8.## is almost a 9mm. (sorry I don't convert to foreign metric system well. I do the good old American-used-to-be-English system).

I read that the .50 caliber, at least by American military, is the prefered because of it's accuracy at longer ranges than the old .30 caliber sniper choice.
