Re: Obama supports making the AWB permanent
The point I am making is that GW is gone. There is nothing more irritating than to have something he has done thrown around like a weapon when anyone mentions a problem with the present regime.
Like I said above...The OP made mention of Obama and his most recent anti gun inititive and right off the bat we have to read someone post negative garbage about a guy who isn't even in charge...geeze....GW was actually one heck of a president. he kept terrorism off our back yards for 8 years...want to take bets on what city will get hit by terrorists first...now that president Mamby Pamby and his queen Palousy are in charge?
Anyway...the point is...quit using what Bush did as justification for what is going on now...it is going to get our country nowhere.
Get over it already....George Bush is retired.

It's almost as funny as people who try to paint any criticism of Bush as support for Obama or Al Qaeda or what ever red herring they can drag out to distract people from the fact Bush was a RINO and far left of JFK.03Lightningrocks wrote:It cracks me up when folks take shots at Bush or other republicans to justify their support for Obama.

That's your opinion.03Lightningrocks wrote:There is nothing more irritating than to have something he has done thrown around like a weapon when anyone mentions a problem with the present regime.
My opinion is that the Bush apologists are a lot more irritating.
My opinion is that the damage Bush did is a lot more irritating than people reminding us of his flaws.

Got this from Obama's Urban Policy posting on the White House website:
Address Gun Violence in Cities: Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent.
The truth is that Obama hasn't done anything so far. He did show indications while campaigning that he will attack our rights, but so far he and congress have been too busy converting this country into a more socialistic government. Now we can go around screaming the the sky is falling, but what will we do when he actually does make attack. and will anyone take the Chicken Littles seriously.
[rant mode on]
There really isn't anything we can do to fix a liberal Democratic party, Obama is doing exactly what he promised to do, he never suggested that he didn't have a socialist agenda. The problem is that the democratic party promises and delivers leftist programs. Its Republican Party that's broken. They are the one promised to be conservative and delivered us ever increasing budgets and anti gun rhetoric. The truth is as conservatives there is nothing we can do to fix the Democratic party, almost every democrat knows that us gun toting conservatives aren't going to vote for them. We need to fix the Republican party. Until we do and start getting electable conservatives we will continue to get screwed to the wall with social programs. If our Republican Congress and Republican President had acted like the conservatives they were supposed to be, we wouldn't be in the mess we are in now and Obama wouldn't president. I understand that a lot of lifelong Republicans don't like being badmouthed, but they have to learn to hate what they've become even more. [/end rant]
so pardon me as I refuse to pointlessly bash the enemy. There is no point. When the time comes I will fight to the best of my ability. I just hope that when the time comes the Republican party is in better shape than it is now.

The point I am making Liberty is that NOTHING will be fixed as long as the kids in the play ground continue to point fingers and exclaim..."You did it first". Obama hasn't made a speech yet where he doesn't point fingers at republicans. He signs a great big trillion dollar porkulous bill just choking with more debt for our kids and nothing to help the economy and then he has the nerve to stand up and talk about reducing spending a week later. The man is a liar and is about to destroy our country while the Hip hop generation that thinks they voted for P-Diddy plays on the internet. Bringing up Bush as a defense to anything negative said about Osama serves no purpose in answering the accusation. You and a few others here make a regular habit of smacking down any post you see that brings up Osamas anti-gun stance. What exactly am i to think. I think your blind hatred for George bush is clouding your thinking. Quite frankly...I think you are a Osama supporter and you are hoping against all hope that he isn't anti-gun. I may be wrong since I don't know you, but all I have to go on is your continual protection of Osama and your continual bashing of a GONE administration.
It's not just you either...it is a few others. If you folks really believe Osama isn't a threat to our firearms freedoms, you folks would do alot more good for your cause by stating why Osama is not a threat instead of stating why you hate republicans and a RETIRED President.
This thread did not start out about Bush...It was about Osama Bin Obama. Why did the first post in response chuck spears at GW? That is a irrational way to make an argument. What does that have to do with anything other than to make a point that GW is bad so Osama must not be that bad?

Ok, lets get in the here and now. Did you see where Obama's AG stated today that we need to bring back the AWB to help out Mexico. Who cares about our constitution, we need to take care of Mexico.
So guess what..... it has started and the new administration is doing exactly what we expected. So now just like one of the other posters noted, the Republican party is broken and is the problem. We need to concentrate on fixing our party and get back on the track of conservitism so we can combat this socalist administration. If we don't fix it soon and get everyone on the train, it will be too far gone.

From ABC News...
The Obama administration will seek to reinstate the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 during the Bush administration, Attorney General Eric Holder said today.
Wednesday Attorney General Eric Holder said that the Obama administration will seek to reinstitute the assault weapons ban which expired in 2004 during the Bush administration.
(AP Photos/ABC News Graphic )"As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons," Holder told reporters.
Holder said that putting the ban back in place would not only be a positive move by the United States, it would help cut down on the flow of guns going across the border into Mexico, which is struggling with heavy violence among drug cartels along the border.
"I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum." Holder said at a news conference on the arrest of more than 700 people in a drug enforcement crackdown on Mexican drug cartels operating in the U.S.

OK....what to do???? We can write to our reps...but our reps aren't the problem. I feel powerless at times like this. The members of congress we have to worry about are the ones in the drivers seat.longhorn_92 wrote:jpierce30 wrote:Ok, lets get in the here and now. Re: Obama supports making the AWB permanent
Wouldn't banning the guns here make them more likely to go to Mexico instead?
We should remove all restrictions, including those against real automatic assault rifles, so more Americans can buy them and keep them here in America!

Pelosi throws cold water on weapons ban
By Mike Soraghan
Posted: 02/26/09 11:59 AM [ET]
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tossed cold water on the prospect of reinstating the assault weapons ban, highlighting Democrats’ reluctance to take on gun issues.
Attorney General Eric Holder raised the prospect Wednesday that the administration would push to bring back the ban. But Pelosi (D-Calif.) indicated on Thursday that he never talked to her. The Speaker gave a flat “no” when asked if she had talked to administration officials about the ban.
“On that score, I think we need to enforce the laws we have right now,” Pelosi said at her weekly news conference. “I think it's clear the Bush administration didn’t do that.”
Outside of the dig at the recent Republican president, that phrase is the stock line of those who don’t want to pass new gun control laws, such as the National Rifle Association.
The White House declined to comment on Holder's remarks, referring reporters to the Department of Justice. The DoJ did not respond to The Hill's request for comment.

I want to believe this but, I will not be fooled. I believe they will pass gun control laws when the time is right. It could be that it is too early...
