In the muzzle-loader era, everyone who was, shall we say, hunting for bear carried a bladed weapon that would be illegal in Texas today. Probably the saber was preferred by gentlemen and military officers. Blades like the Bowie knife were also popular. Rifles often had bayonets.

I have no doubt that the second amendment was meant to protect the right to keep and bear these arms, but I don't know if the U.S. Supreme Court will ever get around to confirming that.

The wording of the MPA makes it legal to carry an "illegal" knife or club in one's vehicle. However, I don't know if the police or prosecutors are going to see it that way.

Then there's the problem of carrying a blade on your person and the police asking you to get out of the vehicle. At that point, if you don't have a CHL, you are in violation of 46.02.

This is a tough challenge. Most of the people who are arrested for unlawfully carrying weapons actually have criminal intent. They are not good candidates for taking a case to an appellate court, and no one is interested in funding that effort.

Precisely the reason to take the legislative approach; getting a law fixed before it becomes a problem costs a few sheets of paper and stamps, and doesn't require anybody sitting in jail waiting for it.

It's not that easy to get a law passed. Every effort to liberalize weapons law is challenged by law-enforcement lobbying groups and DAs. There is no lobby on the other side when it comes to weapons other than firearms.

As I pointed out a while back, the Speaker of the House and the Lieutenant Governor can kill legislation just to clean up the agenda. That's what happens to bills that do not have strong support.

Sorry to be such a pessimist.

going to g see him on Sunday afternoon at the range, after i debriefed my wife she had other questions that may or may not have been covered the best way.

I am jealous though she pulled down almost a 300 (287)on the shootin part. :clapping:
Now I'm REALLY confused. She scored 287 out of 300 in a Texas CHL Shooting Proficiency Test?

she shot 60 rounds, she and our instructor sort of pick on each other, she regularly lays out a nice 3-4" group with the colt at 45 feet. :fire

this day i had her use the xd so she would do as well :anamatedbanana

Wow...sounds like they changed the test. When I took mine last year, it was still 250 (50 rounds). Maybe that is why ammo is scarce! "rlol"

Yep....me too. We actually fired 100 rounds, but the first 50 was practice.

I thought there were rules the instructor had to follow. We shot 50 rounds and there was no practice allowed during the proficiency test. I know there is no rule against knowing your score but I was told all 3 times I took the proficiency test ( no , I never failed ) that if you are ever sued or go to court, it is better to not know your score, just passed per the state requirements.

I would like to know from some instructor's on here, is the test more than 50 rounds now?

Unless they changed something without notifying all of us, the test is still 50 rounds. The statute specifically lays out the test, scoring and how it is to be administered. It doesn't address practice rounds, so I'm sure that's fine. I'd be cautious about administering or taking a test that doesn't agree with the statute.
