Back at Greenville PD, when 4 patrol officers were on shift answering calls in a population of 40,000, it wasn't exactly rare to get a domestic disturbance call while the other three officers were tied up on other calls. I frequently responded alone.

I frequently went home with bruises and sprains and cuts, too, but I survived.

It's not like you can circle the block and wait for back-up to get free while a man is beating the snot out of a woman on their front porch.

BTDT. Had a call one night from wife saying husband was beating her. Two of us arrived and they had both been drinking. Wife had a pretty good mouse on her cheekbone. Asked if she wanted her husband arrested (was back when wife had to press charges) and she said yes. I went to cuff the guy, and she started screaming 'He didn't do nothin, leave him alone!' I looked at the other officer and continued to cuff the hubby. That was when the wife jumped on me still screaming. Luckily the looks the other officer and I had given each other had already put him moving in on the wife. She wasn't on me long before she was cuffed too. We got them settled down and asked if she still wanted to press charges. She said no, that she had actually started the fight and ran into the door frame trying to attack the husband. The husband confirmed the story.

I un-cuffed him, and then told her she was going to the station. Husband didn't say a word. She started screaming 'He won't press charges!' and I said, 'No, but he doesn't have to. We are arresting you for assaulting a police officer.' Husband quietly watched his wife be lead out the door by my buddy. He looked at me and said 'I'll be down after I sober up to bail her out.' He then said laughing 'But it may be a day or so before I am sober enough.'

It is easy to blame the obvious lack of stature of the officer for what happened. Maybe that is the reason maybe not. I wasn't there. I am willing however to give the benefit of the doubt to the officer.

I maybe little but you better think twice before assuming you could get the better of me.

When I was on the department we had a lady officer named Jo (Jo Ann) that was about your size. She too was a terror with her nightstick!! There is NO WAY I would have even thought about trying to cross her.

What these ladies may lack in size and physical strength is MORE than made up for by determination and sheer will!!!!

How many times did you go to one of those calls and after five minutes of talking to the "abused" spouse think to yourself "I would've slapped her/him, too."

I never said it, but boy did I think it sometimes...even as I was cuffing and stuffing the slapper.

It's never right to hit a woman, but some of them sure had ways of punching all the buttons to try to force the issue, and when their man was one of those who had the IQ of a plastic spoon...well, it's no wonder we were taking at least one of them to the hoosgow every few nights.

Then there were the cases where it really was an abusive situation and the victim was 100% innocent. Those got my blood boiling.

Back to our regularly scheduled program...I think someone was still being disciplined behind the woodshed regarding female officers when last we checked...

We had a veteran female officer in Greenville who was as good as any of the guys in a fight, and better than most. That gal could place a baton tip on a bad guy's common perennial multiple times with hundreds of lbs of pressure per square inch with a blindfold on and threaded through a whole pile of fellow officers. When she waded into a fight the BG was usually going to be transported in an ambulance instead of a squad car.

Size is no match for training and technique. Ask Chuck Norris. He's a little dude and the only American ever to win the Korean championship.

Everyone else wears Superman pyjamas. Superman wears Chuck Norris pyjamas.

The subject eventually retrieved the gun, at which time he shot a neighbor who had come out, hearing the gunshots, and also shot his girlfriend.

Boy it just amazes me how even many conservative minded common sense people have been brainwashed by political correctness. You point out medical and physical facts that have been supported throughout history and everybody goes goody-two-shoes nuts screetching PC slogans that fly in the face of 5000 years of human history. Any honest doctor will tell you these things I have mentioned.

Well, I don't mind getting slammed by the majority, never been one to follow the crowd. I can still put up a fight.

Police departments and the military used to have height requirements for intimidation factors. A man who came along who was well built and tall or at least average height would more likely defuse a situation before it turned into a brawl or a gun struggle just by his presence and even if he didn't would be better able to handle the bad guy if it came down to a knock down drag out fight. Departments and the military quietly changed this over the years to "gender norm" women in to meet quotas and other social engineering programs.

Maybe I'm old fashion (if I am, flattery will get you nowhere ) but I was always taught as a boy growing up you were not supposed to hit girls. Why? 1) Because they were weaker and it would make you a bully to do such a thing and 2) girls/ladies represent the finer things. Men are the warriors. I argue that I have a better appreciation and respect for women than any feminist or PC do-gooder with their blather of "equality." I value and appreciate women too much to send one into combat or send one out in a patrol car. I am too civilized to say that a woman can do anything a man can do. Women are not lesser than men, but are different. Indeed it is this difference that makes us both valuable to each other. The woman is a part of me as a man that I lack. Likewise I, as a man, am a part of her that she lacks. Being superior in some aspects and inferior in other aspects is not bad, it is good, it means that one has something that the other lacks. Men are more agressive, women are more nurturing.

When it comes to a knock down drag out fight, I don't care how much Karate she knows, or how good she thinks she is with a night stick, she can be killed by a determined agressive man. And so can a male officer. Don't fool yourself. I know small female officers that can use leverage and tactics better than a lot of large male officers, as well as being quicker in their moves. If it comes to betting on a wildcat or bear in a fight, I would choose the wildcat.
