One of the shows on "Wednesday Night at the Range" on the Outdoor Channel had a little blurb about the new polymer trigger guards. The did an impact test on the old standard metal guard (cast aluminum?) and on the new polymer guard. The metal trigger guard snapped in two, but the polymer showed nothing but a minor flat ding where the weight bounced off.

Personally, I'm NOT a big fan of polymer on firearms, although I do have a couple of polymer pistols in the collection. It may be that we just don't have the same historical confidence in polymer as we do steel. I do like metal, but also accept the fact that modern polymer is actually stronger than steel in most load bearing duties, and self lubricating in others.

I have to keep reminding myself that firearms are really just projectile delivery devices and don't have to be works of art, but just effective. In the meantime, I'll hang on to the steel that I have ;-)
