There is a tradition in their minds that a judge controls his courtroom, but I think it would lose in a real court case. If I am in a judge's court, I am on duty and in my jurisdiction (which is state wide). My agency does not wear uniforms at all. He cannot disarm me if I say no.
Same law that allows them to stop me from carrying a small pocket knife when I'm summoned for jury duty.
Could you point us to that law?

The natural law that says "The uniformed guy with the big gun that makes us walk through the metal detector says it is so"?

Isn't this the same arguement that some LE agencies use to fight against CHL? Sure sounds familiar, maybe the judge is just giving them a taste of their own medicine.

I've spoken with the same deputies twice now on visits to my local courthouse here in Phoenix. They happen to be very CCW-friendly, and did ask if I was LEO. Long and short of it is this. Our own Chief Justice issued an edict that NO LEO shall be armed, OR in uniform if entering the courts on personal business.
The deputy related this story. A state DPS officer arrived after work, wearing full uniform. He was asked if he was there on personal buisness, to which he replied in the affirmative. The deputy told him to return to his car and remove his uniform shirt and secure his duty-belt!
