(For the record, amendments 1 & 3 were both technically "tabled.")
Floor amendment 5 would let colleges & universities prohibit carry on any premises where alcohol is sold or served for on-premises consumption, hospitals and meetings of the governing board. Whitworth has moved to table.
EDIT: tabled 18-12
#6: make it clear there's no exception for bar, polling place or governing board meeting.
alcohol is served on campus? for on-premises consumption?

At UT Austin, there's at least one bar in the student union, yes.
EDIT: The
Cactus Cafe.

At UH, alcohol can be served at events hosted by the campus or by clubs. Also, there is a Hilton on campus that probably serves alcohol.
"Edit"
At Rice University, there is a student bar.

They've moved on to other topics now that 1164 has passed 2nd reading.
What's the next step? It's listed on the bill history page as "Passed to engrossment as amended" -- can someone explain that?

It passed TO third reading (that was the second reading). The final version of the bill will now be printed, and they'll vote on it on Friday. Assuming it passes, which it should, it'll be a photo finish trying to get it scheduled for a vote in the House before the next deadline.

				So if I may ask...
What was the meat and potatoes to 1164? Will private universities still have the ability to decide whether I can carry on campus or not?
Sorry for the question... I am just a little cloudy on these bills since there were a few, and they have all been mixed around. What about the one regarding keeping your gun in your car at work?
Thanks,
Scott

Here's the Reader's Digest version. It will no longer be unlawful for CHLs to carry into school buildings; Universities will not be able to expel students who are CHLs for carrying, nor can they fire employees. They can regulate, but not prohibit, the storage of firearms in school housing. Private schools can still opt out.
Chas.

Thank you for the explanation Mr. Cotton.
I work at a 'private university'...so I hope they are in a good mood when they meet to 'opt' anything.

Thanks!

I don't think I've seen this addressed anywhere, but does anyone know how this would affect hospitals in partnership with universities that post 30.06? Would just the hospital part be off limits, with the classrooms being ok, or would the 30.06 no longer be valid?

I need to see how Amendment 6 is worded to be able to answer your question.
