Just remember that if you do this, do it safely like LEO's do:

Do not stand directly in front of the door.

Stand as far to the side of the door as you can while you knock.

That way when the frightened neighbors, who just might be "some of
us" (armed), start putting JHP's through the middle of the door, you'll
have a chance to avoid becoming a statistic.

well that brings a question from me, how well do JHP's perform after going through a door?

If it was a substantial wooden door I would think the penetration
to the knocking person would be substandard.

Or lethal.

I do not volunteer to be the crash test dummy for such a test.

Do unto others as you would want them to do unto you....... It seems to me that you are being overly sensitive and I get a laugh from people who say they love animals but then in the next sentence give the impression that it is all about you and would file a law suit over a barking dog. Just remember when your kids are out at night raising cane, as they all will do, then turn about is fair play.
Personally I would not sit and watch a neighbors house being broken into, I would call the local PD, but I would be darned if I would try to intervene until they got there, especially when the neighbor had called about my barking dog. Now if water was running out of the house while nobody was home, I would not place a call. Real neighbors put up will some things that may bother us, that is what being neighbors means. It is your decision, just please do not move into my neighborhood, we all get along very well and do not need somebody calling the PD about our dogs.

I am a dog owner also, but I respect my neighbors and will bring my dogs in if they start raising a ruckus. We have a neighbor who owns a beagle and leaves it out. The beagle will start barking and barking and barking and won't shut up. Luckily I live about 5-6 houses away, so not too annoying to me, but their neighbors get extremely tired of it. I know the police have been called on several occasions, and I don't blame them. It is not the dog's fault, it is the neighbor who has no respect for the others.

And as for my kid; if she is out causing a problem and 'raising cane' and it is annoying people, then I expect to be notified by someone to so I can control her also. Those that let their kids run wild are the guilty parties, not the kids.
