Re: my husband
As Chas. said earlier, a TIA can be a beneficial warning alert.
Follow up with sonograms, MRI's, etc., possibly leading to surgery is mandatory for full recovery...been there done that.
Good luck.

Re: my husband
Today was a rough day for Steve. He didn't tolerate the MRI very well, & it spiked his blood pressure again. Took him a while to relax afterwards, & he's going to be spending yet another night in ICU.
We won't have the official results on the MRI until tomorrow, but they have upgraded the diagnosis from TIA to stroke.
Please continue praying - especially for the calm spirit Steve will need to be able to combat the frustration he's feeling through all of this.
God bless you all for the support.

All guns have at least two safeties. One's digital, one's cognitive. In other words - keep the digit off the trigger until ready to fire, and THINK. Some guns also have mechanical safeties on top of those. But if the first two don't work, the mechanical ones aren't guaranteed. - me

Re: my husband
We will keep praying for Steve and you Carla. How is he doing physically? Is there any evidence of a stroke in terms of symptoms?

Re: my husband
Lord I pray that You would speak peace to Steve as only You can. Jesus as you stilled the storm that day on the sea speak peace to Steve's heart and still the anxiety and frustration. Lord give him a peaceful night and let the calmness of Your Spirit come upon him. Father I thank You and give You the glory and I ask in Jesus' name.
God Bless You,

Re: my husband
Physically, there's no outward symptoms. No weakness, limpness, tingling, no loss of motor control.Charles L. Cotton wrote:We will keep praying for Steve and you Carla. How is he doing physically? Is there any evidence of a stroke in terms of symptoms?
Chas.
Mentally, he's got some random transient memory problems (dealing with things such as a particular person's name, or the right word for whatever he's trying to say). When his bp rises past a certain point, his speech deteriorates to random, clearly enunciated syllables that have no relationship to the word he wants. No slurring. It also affects his writing. He'll write "G" for the letter "S" for example. He has no problem understanding speech. So basically, input's good, output becomes garbage. When the bp drops back to reasonable levels, lucid speech returns.
This evening was much better. He's finally relaxing somewhat, and the meds are keeping his bp more-or-less stable in a reasonable range. But it's a juggling act right now trying to find the right balance of meds so he can be weaned off of the IVs and onto an oral med that will work for him so that this won't happen again. He was a lot calmer when we got booted out of ICU for the night.
If he can stay stable through the night he may get moved to a regular room tomorrow, and then he'll be allowed to walk around a bit.
He's finally realizing, and starting to accept, that this might not be a "quickly resolved" problem.
However, he still hasn't realized that we almost lost him on Saturday. When I got him to the ER, his bp was so high that it was, to use the polite term my physician-BIL used, "Not compatible with life."
And I'm feeling like two people right now. One is very calm, matter-of-fact, and rational about what's happening and what needs to be done. The other is wanting to cower in a dark corner, shrieking. I thank God that it's the rational side that's managed to stay in control so far, even though the other is "twitching" under the surface.
I can feel the prayers of His children surrounding us and lifting us up. Thank you all.

Re: my husband
The prayers are being answered. Thank you!
Steve's blood pressure was stable enough for long enough off the IV, using just oral meds, that the ICU doctor finally released him this afternoon to be transferred to a regular room. And the nurse told him to just speak up whenever he wanted a shower, and they'd unhook him from the monitors temporarily. He was in a good mood when I left this evening.
He'll be monitored carefully over the next couple/few days to make sure he's on the right dosages to continue to keep his bp stabilized. Still not sure when he'll be able to go home, and how much longer after that before he can resume a normal schedule & return to work.
But God is good.
If I had a dollar for every time someone has asked me "Is there anything you need? Anything I can help with?" over the last 3 days, it would pay off the hospital's co-pay!
Please add a blessing for the ICU staff in your prayers for Steve.
