Just a thought,

I refinished the wood for my SKS. Still the original wood, but stripped it and refinished with many coats of tung oil. I like the way it looks and kept the original wood with the rifle. Which makes it less "original" I suppose, but I did it because it made the rifle look better and I have no intentions on selling it.
