yeah, i was just referring to a thread from a while back , i was hoping those who remembered it would get a chuckle

This topic has kept gun magazine writers busy and thriving for the last 50 years. The FBI spent hundreds of thousands of dollars testing and proving that the 10mm was the best cartridge for their Special Agents. That is until they found that some of their agents couldn't handle shooting such a powerful handgun.

IMO the "most effective self defense handgun cartridge" for "stopping power" is the one with the largest caliber bullet having the heaviest bullet, with the most muzzle velocity and greatest kinetic energy. Period.

If you want the greatest "stopping power" the .44 Magnum beats most other calibers in bullet diameter, muzzle velocity and kinetic energy, but how many CHLers carry a .44 Magnum? If you want to carry a revolver that is as big and heavy as a boat anchor then go for a Model 29 S&W.

All that really matters is if you want to carry a gun in that particular caliber. If you don't every else is a compromise.

I've personally seen .45 acp do different things.
One .45 hit the dirt/rock at 45 degrees or so, behind a man, the bullet hit him below the left ear, traveled around the skull, under his scalp, and exited out, just above his right eye.
In the hospital for a week or so, then returned back to duty.
Left a cool, purple mark around his head with a black eye. ( He was not issued a Purple Heart, due to accidental friendly fire !)
The second .45 acp was being fanned like a cowboy gun (twirlling) on his trigger finger. When he stopped twirlling, he hit the back strap as the muzzle was about even with his mouth ...BAM, bullet went thru his mouth, up towards the back of his head ..
that exit wound was nasty, took most of his head off.
Who knows how a round will react !

I saw Rob Pincus demonstrate the same thing in one of his videos. No, it does not violate the laws of physics.

I used to manage a restaurant in south Dallas years ago, one night someone broke in and tried to pry the safe open (criminals aren't very bright), then shot the dial (seen too many movies it seems). The round bounced off the dial, and skipped down through the kitchen passing under equipment that at times was only 4 or 5 inches off the ground. Every time the bullet hit the floor it cracked my tile, which is how I followed it. I still don't understand it, but it managed to go down the kitchen, come back, skip in front of the shooter, graze a wall and then bounce off a stainless steel table, and presumably land in the shooter's back. There was a considerable amount of blood where he would have been standing. I recovered the metal jacket, but I think the BG took his lead back with him.

I'm no ballistics expert, but for that bullet to do what it did, it had to be traveling low and generally parallel to the ground for at least some of its path, especially after the first time it hit the ground.
