I bought one for my wife. Other than having to send it back, it's been a really nice little shooter. In Sig's favor, they sent a box with the shipping label - all I had to do was put it in the box and tape it shut and ship it.
My wife loves it. She (a beginning shooter) shot around 90 or so rounds through it last weekend and her wrists weren't sore at all (an issue she had with my CZ-82). She liked the way it sighted (it actually HAS sights), the trigger break, recoil, and pretty much everything else - she didn't like the 6 round capacity - she also didn't like the 6 + 1 hammer down safety on method. She also knows that for the size, that's all she's going to get.
I like it as well. I shoot my CZ much better, but the 238 is very managable and fairly accurate (enough for defense anyway) and definitle easy to pocket or conceal.

Hammer down safety on method?????
Yeah, it's the attempt to sell "one in the chamber" to someone who would NEVER carry hammer cocked safety on w/one in the chamber.
So, if she carries, it will most likely be (and it would not be my method), hammer down on an empty chamber with the safety on (I can't believe I just typed that).
I won't worry if I'm with her, I'll cover till she gets everything cycled - that's providing I ever get my license. (I know this is sad, but I'm almost laughing - did I mention she's a beginner? Oh, and doesn't really like guns?) Hey, I'm tryin' and she is making progress.

it sounds to me like you mean "6+0, hammer down on empty chamber, no external safety engaged"

just guessing ;-)

The P238 and the Colts it's copied from allow the safety to be set with the hammer down.
That is actually the way I pocket carry my Mustang.
It's a simple matter to click the safety off in my pocket, and cocking while drawing becomes 2nd nature pretty quickly.

I used to carry my Colt Mustang the same way - round in the tube, hammer down, safety on.

RexB & austinrealtor, how did you carry the Colt Mustang? What kind of holster & who made it?
That sure is one sweet little gun.

I just pocket carry, in an Uncle Mikes $10 holster.

To be honest, I carry my LCP more often because it's thinner and lighter.
The difference in weight is pretty noticeable, but I like the all-metal, 1911 format enough to carry it when I can.

I would think that if you aren't carrying cocked and locked, it would be safer to carry unchambered with safety off - having to rack the slide but have a charged and ready weapon - than to carry hammer down on live round with safety on. I don't doubt the safe carry of hammer down with safety on, but I DO doubt that having to thumb the hammer back while under stress would be any faster or safer than racking the slide. You obviously would have one more round in the stack, but something just doesn't seem as safe having to thumb the hammer.

just my opinion

I have no doubt that I could thumb the hammer much more quickly and just as safely as I could rack the slide. the latter takes two hands, and you may not have two hands free. And you can't rack the slide while pointing the pistol. At least *I* can't. That's a moment of vulnerability if ever there was one.
I can engage/disengage the safety, and cock the hammer without taking it from my pocket. I prefer to cock on the draw however.

The Colt Mustang is a much smaller gun (obviously) than a 1911, so thumbing back the hammer is much easier (and safer, IMHO). I tried the slide-rack method with no round in chamber and was concerned I might not have my off-hand available if I really needed the gun (I know this is how the Israelis do it, but it just didn't work for me).

To answer specific question above:

I normally carried my Mustang cocked and locked in a Galco IWB holster. This was back in my newspaper days when I worked night shift and could dress like a "slob" (my wife's word, not mine) with an untucked shirt all the time.

For times when I did need to tuck in the shirt, I would pocket carry with safety on and hammer down. Don't remember the pocket holster, but it was a cheap and weak little nylon piece of junk.

Rex, I'm trying to rememember the battery of arms on my lil Mustang. Seems to me I could cock the hammer in pocket with safety still on. Then drop the safety during or after the draw (making the draw similar to drawing a 1911). Can the hammer be cocked with safety on? I honestly can't remember now.

I really don't think it will cock with safety on.
But I don't have mine to check. I'll try to do that later.

Just checked a 238 and it will not cock with the safety engaged.
