There are events specifically defined as amateur that give prizes. A lot of sports define professionals (the participants) as members of a specific organization like the NHRA. Everyone else is an amateur as far as they are concerned.

This is one of those questions that has to be decided by case law. As far as I know, it never has.

:iagree: Make sure you have a minimum of $5,000 to spend on your defense, to "test the waters".

For me, it's not worth it.....I'll leave the gun behind.

It's cheaper to conceal good.

So it sounds like the general thought is that it MIGHT be okay, but then again it MIGHT not, so if there is a serious doubt about it, it would be better to leave it behind. Until someone else spends their dollar in a court of law to confirm for sure one way or the other, I'll not ctest the "very dark gray" areas.

Instead of disarming, it's better to boycott places that don't allow concealed carry.

I know I'm pulling up an old thread here, but it is relevant.

I don't know if the Texas Motorplex out of Ennis is posted 30.06 or not. 1-2 year old postings on texas3006 indicate it is posted, albeit I'm sure the wording is outdated since January.

However, if it is not posted, then I believe that most people would think that the Fall Nationals would be considered a professional sporting event (I do as well). Most people would think that this makes it off limits to carry there. But, the penal code says premises, which is defined as a "building or a portion of a building". Everything at the motorplex is outside though if I remember correctly (well, maybe not the port-o-johns and suites).

All this makes me believe that concealed carry at this particular location, being not inside a building, would be legal as long as no 30.06 sign is there, or wording is not per penal code, correct?
