Not sure you can go wrong with the Glock 36 / Super Tuck rig. IMHO.

I have a Millennium Pro 745 and love it. The 745 is the same as the PT145 except it has a 6+1 capacity. I choose this model since it is ever so slightly slimmer than the PT145. The difference in round capacity wasn't that much of an issue with me since I'm perfectly willing to carry my .357 snubby with a five round capacity and I don't feel handicapped. I had a problem with the Taurus (I own three of them) at first. The mag kept popping out of the gun. Sent it in to Taurus and within six weeks got it back repaired. They replaced the slide. I was sure the problem was in the mag release button, but they said the slide was the culprit. I hadn't thought about that, but I guess if the slide kept the mag from seating in the grip properly it could cause the problem I described. Since getting the gun back from Taurus it has performed flawlessly. I love Taurus pistols.

Ouch, just checked the prices on that bad boy... beautiful gun, but way out of my price range.

High end of the budget is $550. Would prefer not to get anywhere near that though. That's why I am heavily leaning toward the PT145. It runs about $350 (tops) that I've seen.

i have found it helpful to use layaway when possible . that way you can have 3 months to pay it off .

You should be able to get into a Glock 36 for that or less and I would highly recommend that route over the PT145. In my experience, the Glock is MUCH more reliable. It's not quite as compact but it is easily workable.

How about a Para-Ordnance P10-45? That's a really sharp looking gun. Not sure about the price though. Cabela's has one NIB for $599.00, but I'll bet there are better deals out there.

Somebody suggested going to a gun show and shop there. I agree that there are good deals to be found there. If used guns don't turn you off, here's a nice one listed on auctionarms.com, with current bid price of $200.00. But that's the opening bid, and was just listed yesterday, so no telling what the final sales price will be.

I wish there was some sort of comprehensive listing of compact and sub-compact guns listed somewhere with the larger caliber guns like the Bob O's listing of the smaller calibers found on mouseguns.com. But I haven't found it yet.

I have the Taurus Millennium Pro 745. That's the single stack version of the PT-145. I chose the single stack version because it is just a little bit thinner. Love the gun - very reliable and Taurus' lifetime warranty is a real plus. I own three Taurus pistols so you know I'm a fan.

I thought the Glock 36 was more compact than the PT145, what with it being a single stack gun. I have yet to see one anywhere, so I can't get my fat mitts on it to find out, though. I love my 1911, but as you all know, when the gun bug bites...

Plus, the "Ballistic Tupperware" would be a bit lighter than my full size Kimber.

Wearing a 4516-1 IWB about 5 o'clock right now. Slight cant in a horsehide. Comfy and reliable. Don't have any Tupperware except in the kitchen.

personally, I prefer guns made in the USA. If the Kimber compact or sub-compact models don't fit the budget, I'd bet the Kahr CW45 would. I carry a Kimber Stainless Compact occassionally, but lately have found myself carrying my recently acquired Kahr CW9. The Kimber has had thousands of rounds down the tube and is totally reliable, the Kahr has only had 365 rounds of various stuff but has been totally flawless. The Kahr is a great IWB carry gun, as long as self defense is the main concern. If you plan to enter a battle field, or feel you may have to fight off a half dozen armed terrorists, the single stack, low round count may not be your thing. I am completely confident in the low round count, with a single spare magazine in case of a mag malfunction.

I'm broadening my reach here... now considering the XD-45 compact as well as the PT145. They're the front runners at this point.
