I have had two a Commander and a full size no issue. Some of the standard 1911 so called drop in parts do take more or less to fit. But I also had fitting with a Kimber or two in my time. They are well worth the money for a platform to build on and they shoot ball fine. I would not buy one for a carry gun though RIA has yet to catch on to light weight addition and it will be a brick on your hip. I love the 1911 and will swear by there feel and shooting, but I will bet my life on a G36 over my old Defender any day of the week. i can say that with the GLOCK it will go bang every time and eject and go in to battery and bang again, I have seen many of a 1911 go bang and jam. If you have not had a lot of time behind a 1911 in condition 1-3 and are unable to fund a few thousand rounds at the range to learn the weapon inside and out it is not the weapon for you. Only you know the answers to those questions. The 1911 is considered to be the safest and the most dangerous all in one. I love them and most do after some trigger time with one.shooter4 wrote:Be careful of these Rock Island guns. My machinist buddy bought one thinking it was a steal only to find out the gun was out of spec and he had to do a lot of machining to correct it......some might be good but QC is an issue. I would look somewhere else........TexasFlash wrote:I saw a lot of Rock Island Armory 1911's at Saxet gun show in San Antonio this past weekend; good looking guns and they make a compact model, Rock Island .45 1911 Compact CSP in the $500 range... seem to be getting some decent reviews on the internet. I also am being tempted...

Re: Compact 1911
A standard Kimber UC II can be found for well under $1k. More like $799 or so. But be aware that "most" 3" 1911s are finicky. I have an Ultra Carry and still to this day have feeding issues with it from time to time, and it's been worked on.
If I had to do it over again, I would go with at least a 4" model. I've handled them both and the difference in size is not even noticeable. Also, don't forget to look at STI, made right here in Texas and one of the smoothest out of the box 1911s I have ever handled.

A few Glocks, a few Kahrs, Dan Wesson CBOB 10mm, Dan Wesson CBOB 45ACP, Springer Champion Operator

My Kimber Ultra II has not misfed one round. I have provided plenty of opportunities with cheap ammo, but it keeps coming back for more. SS at $799.00 could not be more happy with the gun.

The only problem I've had with my Ultra was a premature lock back, I blame the cheap Mag I was using at the time though.sig229fan wrote:My Kimber Ultra II has not misfed one round.
