Just saw the 4:00 news story on Channel 11 regarding this incident. No mention was made of CHL.
Only that it was a 3rd degree felony to bring a gun onto school premises.
This kind of idiot only makes it harder to get school carry passed for CHL holders. I'm having a hard time
mustering any sympathy.........
grrr... last thing we need whether he has a CHL or not. In some school areas I wouldn't feel comfortable WITHOUT my handgun. But idiots like this make it really hard to convince people that it's perfectly safe when you exercise common sense... which unfortunately people can't be forced to do.

My guess is he did not have a CHL. I have found three news stories and not one mentioned a CHL license. The press would drool over a chl in this case. As a matter of fact the reporters are probably having to take an extra dose of prozac because he didnt have one.
As unfortunate as it is I disarm when going into a school. I wish I didnt have to because there would be nothing worse for me to be in the school with my daughter and some lunatic walk in and the whole time knowing my best chance at protecting both of us is in the truck.
Law needs to change but those people who are scared of guns will use this any chance they get.

I would bet SA Single Action (1911?). That's about the only configuration that makes since unless he's trying to cover some kind of careless handling...more likely IMHO.

I doubt it. If it was "cocked and locked" The safety would have to be released; the grip safety would have to be depressed the same time the trigger was pulled. Don't think you would do that by just leaning against a door frame. If it was not cocked no way. Could have been "Glock" leg or like you stated - he's trying to cover something up and we haven't heard the whole story.
Mitchum Patterson, 52, shot himself accidentally in his right thigh as he bent over inside a maintenance closet at Umphrey Lee Elementary School. The employee, who has worked at DISD for 14 years, had the loaded gun tucked in his pants....
Patterson's son said he was carrying the weapon to protect his grandkids, who he thought were in danger. Family members offered no further explanation.
Ya gotta admire the guy's work ethic. Fourteen years on the job, and he's working on his day off.

I am thinking more along the lines of a revolver like a smith model 37 with the hammer pulled back. the trigger could have been hit by his keys, pen, stick of gum ... you name it.

Could've been a Colt Mustang or one of the new Sig 238. Basically a mini 1911 with no grip safety. If it's in his pocket or tucked into his waistband and the safety disengages somehow there is nothing else before bang but a very short, light trigger pull.
