did anyone mention the firing pin safety? Someone elluded to it with the Glock three safety system, but anyway, i'll mention it again in case. I agree all these reports of guns going off is bull for negligent FINGERS pulling triggers. NY cops aren't in ayway going to admit they were fussing with their Glocks and "it just went off".........and i'm not sure if the XD has the same firing pin/spring relationship but on Steyrs and Glocks the spring is not compressed on the firing pin UNTIL the trigger is pulled. XD's areprobably the same i'm assuming. SO...........it will NEVER happen unless you make it happen.......... hope i'm not repeating what somebody else said......still working on that first cup of Joe................

If you're that worried about carrying with one in the chamber -- don't do it.
In fact, you can even run a test.
Carry with the pistol "charged", but without one in the chamber.
At the end of the day, verify the pistol is still charged.
If it is, then you're pistol would not have fired during the day.
If it isn't, then you need to figure out what you did to pull the trigger, or what is wrong with your gun/holster/etc.

I had a glock get knocked out of my holster 1 day while I was doing 130mph on my bike and cartwheeled down the road for a fairly long distance and it never went off. The gun was pretty much totaled but all 14 rounds including the 1 in the chamber were still there so unless you are going to abuse yours worse than that don't worry. There's always a chance. Remember that NY detective's Series 80 Commander that fired when sucked into an MRI machine? All safeties were still engaged.

Handguns are designed to be carried loaded.

Somebody ease my mind on carrying a 1911 cocked & locked. I carry my Beretta 96D with no issues (DAO) but I just can't wrap my head around safely carrying a 1911 (or similar SA auto). I've owned 1911's before but that was before I had my CHL. I'd like to carry one at some point, but I scared

Assuming you would have the manual safety engaged, you'd have to disengage it, depress the grip safety AND pull the trigger to fire the pistol.

That's three "actions" -- pretty safe IMHO.

When the Kimber Pro Carry is my "gun for the day", it's in Condition One.

I've carried my XD9 Subcompact for 5+ years day-in-day-out and it has not shot at me yet when it is retained in my holster, but the day it does I will pull my BUG 380 and fire back.

On a serious note, like many others have said, charge the gun with an empty chamber and carry in your holster for a period of time that makes you comfortable that it will not go off. If you have a holster that covers your trigger guard you should not have any problems.

I do not believe that that was the result of the gun malfunctioning, an MRI machine creates a magnetic field 10,000 x's stronger than that of the earth. IMHO what happened is the magnetic field coupled with the metal in the gun and ammo caused everything to heat up rapidly past the cook off point. Basically the MRI machine turned into one big induction cook top.

I carry my 1911 daily, shoulder holster, OWB, or fanny pack depending on weather, and what I am wearing. It is that big hammer being back that intimidates most people. The moderen 1911's are some of the safest firearms on the market just ignore the big bad hammer.

For those of you that are uncomfortable carring a loaded autoloader, buy a revolver. I would rather have six loaded and ready to fire, and then practice, practice, practice with speed loaders.

My two cents - if you are that afraid (or cautionary - "scare(d) to death") ... maybe a firearms safety course is in order for you. Trust me, you would not be the first person to have their Man card suspended until proper training was applied...

I know some people who had the same fear, but with a different gun. My recommendation to them was to load it with a snap cap in the chamber, and carry it around as if it were loaded. After some time going about your business, with a gun with a chambered round, you will feel more comfortable with it. Eventually you can swap out the snap cap with a real cartridge and carry with confidence.

Two things to remember 1)don't rush it, wait untill you are comfortable and confident in your gun.
2) practice racking the slide when you draw, it is a SD weapon after all, and that snap cap won't be stopping anyone.
