Again, get your facts straight please. Since Meiji Restoration (1868), the Samurai class was largely abolished - watch "The Last Samurai" to get an idea.
Thank you - in the future I'll follow your lead and learn history from Tom Cruise movies.

I said to get an idea, not to learn history. The Last Samurai is loosely based on the historical event of Meiji Restoration though.

In an effort to see a much of the world as possible, I decided many years ago that I would take one international trip a year. Since then I have had the pleasure of visiting many great countries and have seen some beautiful things. (If any of you ever get a chance to go to Ireland, I would strongly recommend it!)

That being said, when my plane touches back down in the USA, I am glad to be back here. We have a lot of problems, and we are not the best at everything. Sometimes it feels like we are not the best at most things, but at the end of the day, we have a culture of freedom that very few places in the world can match. We also have a Constitution and Bill of Rights which guarantee those freedoms, much to the dismay of many in Washington.

I don't want to live anywhere but the USA and the great state of Texas. I think the title of this post says it all. :txflag:

Dragonfighter wrote: You are quite the apologist for China. Perhaps you'd rather live there. It's easy to reduce recidivism when you either imprison for life, execute or exile the offenders. Do you believe that China's reporting of crime rates is accurate?

Before a visit by anyone of importance, say Bell Helicopter, the beneficent Chinese government will round up thousands of homeless from the streets and inter them until the visitors have left. It becomes an embarrassment for a communist regime to have people it can't take care of, so it becomes illegal to be homeless. But from your point of view, the homeless rate is lower there and the communists give everyone a home...at least temporarily.

But I am not going to tell you that, if you find the United States so distasteful and China so attractive, move. I'm not going to tell you that because all you have to do, with the current administration, is wait...you'll be there soon enough.

Mods, shouldn't this be in the political forum? I wasn't in the mood for, nor expected this conversation in this forum.
I am only saying what is factual - at least try my best to be objective.

No, I do not believe the crime rate reported by the Chinese government to be accurate, nor do I believe the same thing from the US government to be accurate. Just because they had some pseudo communist party leading the country, it does not make them automatic liars - both US and China have lied plenty to each other and the world. It's not a political forum, so I am not going any further.

If you don't believe the government of US would not round up homeless people whenever some VIPs coming to visit, you don't have to. It's actually called "Sunshine Project" in Houston, if I remember the term right.

What I am saying is that we can learn from what the Chinese have done right and actually fix those bad things here and make this country great.

I have actually lived in China. You probably read the commie propaganda pamphlets they give you at the travel agency. I won't hold it against you because, well, your username/handle says it all....

Stupid wrote:I cannot help but chime in as you are very mis-informed. I have not been to Columbia or Britain, but both China and Japan have far lower crime rate, especially on violent crimes than USA.
If you'll please re-read my post, I said, "on a positive note, there is very little crime here." (Japan) Japan is very low in crime.

However, if you believe the Chinese government's commie crime statistics telling you that China is very safe, then I've got some invisible clothes I wanna sell you.... I've lived in China before and I can tell you for a fact that it is VERY DANGEROUS in China. I have travelled the world (everywhere except the middle east and Africa) but the only place more dangerous is Colombia. People in China would slit your throat for a shiny belt buckle. Last year, I saw a crashed car with some bloody bodies strewn all over the road. I asked if my chauffeur if he's gonna stop to help them. "No," he replied and he stepped on the gas even more! The "injured" bodies immediately got up and jumped out of the way! They had pitchforks and large knives on them! Another time, my cousin called me and told me that she was detained on a bogus charge of "espionage" and they they would send her off to a gulag unless we paid the POLICE off. The biggest criminals are in the government. My home was constantly burglarized even though I had an armed guard! The armed guard was obviously working for local criminals. I fired the guard and hired another, and another, but they were ALL working for local criminal gangs. My pockets were constantly picked. There isn't enough space on here to list all the times I've been jacked in China.
No, it's not death penalty for firearm possession. I challenge you to show me the law that says that.
Gee, I wonder if you're actually a Chinese Communist! It's a communist country for God's sake! There is NO law! The "law" is whatever the bigger fish says is law. If a high communist party official says you're guilty of some bogus charge, then you're going to jail. Your trial would be a joke because YOU "lawyer's" job is actually to "help" you confess so that they judge would be more lenient sentencing you. I challenge you to find a common man (not a Communist party official or army general or police chief) who was caught with a gun and did not end up in front of a firing squad. If you don't pay a "fine" or couldn't afford to pay, then you're most likely going to end up in front of a firing squad or in a gulag. I know! My cousin was in a gulag!
no, you don't need to be a communist to be in military or police.(to own guns)

Yeah, right. How many political parties are there in China??? ONE, the commie party. Find me one Republican or Democrat in China that is not associated with the CIA or US embassy with a legal gun ownership and I'll buy you a lifetime supply of beer.
Gun permits (rifles) are available to hunters but very strict rules apply.
No rules apply, but very strict BRIBES apply. I have hunted in China before. It takes a fat bribe and someone will follow you around to makes sure you don't "cause trouble" with the gun.

No, you wouldn't be punished for being a vigilante. It's most likely that they would give you a medal and hail you as a hero. The Chinese are mostly taught to be vigilant and they rely heavily on community policing - regular citizens.
Wow, now, I'm sure you're a commie. You probably imagine that these "heros" would be making a speech in front of lots of red flags and fanfare, huh?
No, nobody will confiscate your personal stuff. There's no such law, justification or motivation.
Look up "communism" in the dictionary, please. It means you own ZERO stuff. The government owns you. Any high communist party official could rob you blind and rape your wife and if you do anything buy smile and say, "you're welcome," your entire extended family will end up dead in a ditch in a millisecond. EVERYONE I knew in China had stuff confiscated from them. Two years ago, a friend of mine was walking down the street and a police officer said that he liked his watch and if he didn't give it to him, he'd arrest my friend because he kinda looked like a criminal. Last year, an American Born Chinese I knew was kidnapped by the mayor of a MAJOR city in China because he suspected that she was a "western spy", but this suspicion would clear up if he was given $40,000 USD deposited into an overseas bank account. All communist party officials, whether they be police, or elected officials, or soldiers WILL rob/confiscate from you.
In which part of USA, do you NOT require time and money to own guns???
Let's see, in the USA, you can get a shotgun without going to class and getting registered. A brand new Remington 870 costs less than $300 in the USA.

In Japan, you'd pay $600 USD for the classes and registrations for permission to own a shotgun. Then, you'd have to attend monthly classes at $60 a pop and you'd have to take a day off of work to go to these classes. A used junky shotgun costs $300 in Japan.

Yes, being able to own a gun is FREEDOM. It is one of the many freedoms guaranteed in the bill of rights in our constitution. These are personal freedoms. Financial freedom is the freedom from high taxes. Some places have higher financial freedom and other places have almost as much personal freedom, but only the USA has a high degree of personal AND financial freedom. God bless America!

:iagree: , and on track. I don't see many instances of folk wanting to migrate out of the the US. However, I do believe the exit door is open for those wanting to find their own Utopia.

drjoker, all the comments you made about China sound like from the 60s or 70s. Well this is 2009/2010! If you still see things that way, I would say that you had missed really the big picture.

I have lived in 3 different countries in the past, visited countless others and it looks like I am going to move again in the near future. I don't hold grudge or special sentiment against any particular country. What I have learned is we must remain an open mind and respect each culture.

10-20 years ago, if you asked the question "Do you want to live in America?" in many other countries, you would get a resounding "yeah!!!" Today, you would probably get a question back like "Why do you want to live in America?"

Well, here's my answer to them on things I enjoy - I can tell you no other parts of the world can offer these, except for maybe the frozen Canada, very nice but too cold:
1. There's very little racism or a class system. People would look up to you as long as you are successful (having money or successful in academics or sports etc.) regardless of what your skin color or your background is.
2. There's no easier place to open and run a business. $500 to register a company and you are ready to go.
3. Very stable political system!!!
4. Exceptionally good public college education - public high schools kind of suck
5. Convenient - anything from almost every aspect of regular life. Try to order a phone line in another country and you will see what I mean.

Obviously, I can also compose a list of "I don't like." Of all things, I don't like:
1. totally irresponsible in our spending, both personal and governmental. Being frugal and live below your means is not something well understood/practiced.
2. lack of a universal health care system which could be paid in full easily if we reined our spending
3. too lenient towards criminals. too any recidivists. too many crimes
4. too many crazy lawsuit. A Texan sued his rescuer, a good Samaritan, who pulled him out of his burning car and during the process sprinkled/pulled his ankle.
5. USA has turned from a nation of immigration into a nation of limitation. Legal immigration sucks and takes an awfully long time (3-5 years on average) and an awful lot of money (10K to start), which in turn scares away many talents, forces companies to move abroad and draws in a huge amount of illegals.
