Pretty sure if I were my director I'd fire me for insubodination if caught.
You do realize that if you become your own boss, it becomes much harder to hide things like that, right?

Say a CHL holder's company prohibits carry, and something happens (mugging, assault, whatever) that had the victim had his or her weapon could have prevented this him or her being harmed...
Life time supply of office supplies or what?
(Assuming the victim survives)
In my layman eyes it's the company's fault...eh?
Only if the company is negligent. Even then it's questionable.

Let's say that a company employee threatened to kill you. You go to HR and request that you be allowed to carry a gun to protect yourself. HR tells you "no" and then the guy kills you. If the company did nothing to protect you from this other employee, your family would probably have a case they could win. The suit would be based on the fact that the company knew of the situation and were negligent because they did nothing to insure your safety. It would have nothing to due with the fact that they wouldn't let you carry a gun. Those are my comments.

Here's an interesting take:

My company has a similar policy, so I am not allowed to carry a weapon that the State of Texas says I am qualified to carry.

At the same time, there are no gunbuster signs, or 30.06 signs on our building.

So, those that work there cannot carry, but those that visit are allowed to do so. Kind of hypocritical, isn't it?

You and I are in the same boat ChuckyB. It's a lousy boat, but a very good job.

From what I see and read, jobs are kinda' hard to come by these days; especially, very good jobs.

I think about it all the time and every year when we have to take tests as refreshers for the employee handbook and safety manual. I know the answer they want to the question of who is allowed to carry a gun on the premises, but I always answer the truth. It's marked as incorrect an I'm asked to review the handbook and answer again. Then I give the expected answer because I'm not sure what would happen if I continue to give the right answer.

I am in the medical field, which seems to be run by liberals. In other threads I have even stated that when I first became employed here and they changed the policy I foolishly pointed out to them that they are doing nothing to prevent non-employees from carrying. Well, even then no signs emerged. I was trying to be a good employee, but they either don't care or are still taking bad advice from corporate lawyers that don't know anything about gun laws.

I am very fortunate. I am educated, picked a good field, and got a unique position with a good company. Over the years I have managed to embed myself into several committees and expand my usefulness to several departments. I'm not irreplaceable and others could do my job, but it would take a few people quite some time to figure out how I do what I do and do it as efficiently.

In this job climate I must tolerate the slim chance that anything would happen at work or coming to and from. I try to go straight to and from without any stops since I am unarmed until the parking lot bill goes through.

Where did ChuckyBrown's response go that asked me to think about it? It is what my post above this one was in response to.

Technically we aren't allowed to have any weapons on the property where I work, but all but one or two of our guards (including my boss who is also the facilities manager) keep our guns at least in our vehicles, plus one of our guys is a Glock armorer and everyone brings guns for him to work on. Heck, even our two highest executives are gun nuts now because of him

Ironically, I can carry away from work, but not AT work even though I'm a security officer :banghead:
