Zee, while there are several partisan issues that we agree to disagree on, this is one statement that I'll affirm from the right side of the aisle. That was exactly my feeling during the Presidential election. I had a very hard time supporting McCain, but he was certainly the lesser of two evils.

Regarding our governor's race, I just don't believe KBH has enough fight left in her to be able to hold the TX Gov's seat. Texas is a state that leads by example, and KBH has pretty much been an icon without action as of late.

I find the last post to be quite dis-tasteful, and lacks civility. That's me exercising my 1A rights.

Which poster are you referring to as distasteful? Just curious.

I'm hoping Kay H would be a better choice just because she can't coast the first few years and could actually do something to benefit the state. My wish list is for a Democrat. Odds are growing but still very limited for that to happen. I always feel a little cheated when I have to go the least of the evils. Still- its nice to have a choice.
Agreed. Can I vote none of the above?

Pretty much sums it up...

Funny how all these programs in Houston started out as a "billable" deal (like the save/clear program) and stuff like that but immediately went to an almost free one when the people had a fit over it...how much do you think it would be if a statewide program like that happened...

Government spending what it doesn't have is the EXACT problem we have right now with the Federal Government...promises, promises, promises..but the money has to come from somewhere!!!

Not gonna vote for this guy...guaranteed!

I live in Houston and did under Bill White; I really hope all of Texas does not have to experience what we have experienced here.

The utter catastrophe that was the Rita evacuation pretty much set the tone for his entire time in office. Hopefully this is the end of his political career rather than a new beginning.

In his defense, I have to say that Mayor White and the Harris County officials were blindsided by that. They also took the lessons they learned and developed a vastly improved evacuation plan.

Really? This is the gulf coast. Every year the supermarkets are full of cardboard cutout weathermen with hurricane information pamplets and the debate is on as to how many hurricanes will form this year. If that isn't warning enough...Katrina should have been. And the only lesson that was learned was that when Ike hit nobody bothered to leave because they didn't want to sit in 20 hours of traffic to drive 200 miles.

And here we are, post-Ike, and still the powerlines criss-cross around town with tree branches stuffed between them, same as always. The post-Ike hurricane preparedness plan he came up with was completely useless.

It was the evaccuation hysteria that blindsided them and the evaccuation plan that they improved.

And White seemed to be in the middle of the hysteria. It wasn't a day later that he was yelling at FEMA, basically saying, "Where's our money?" when there were areas that were far worse off and needed immediate attention (we were in one of those). In the (nationally televised) press conferences, it seemed to me that the other local officials in the room were a bit embarrassed when he talked (I know I was). I saw good stuff from Perry at the time.
