The 200 grain in 45 GAP doing 970 fps and 418 ME from a four inch barrel looks like the best of that breed. I don't understand peoples' reluctance to accept newly engineered handgun rounds of 45 GAP, 357 SIG and 327 MAG. In all cases they seem to offer desirable improvements in firepower and size.

My reluctance in accepting any new handgun round is the expense foremost. I don't like having to pay a premium for a new technology/design when I can get something for cheaper that has been doing the job for a very long time. Doing the job effectively I might add. Another hang up for me in the availability of ammo and mags. Then there is the voice of reasoning in the back of my head that reminds me how much firearms cost to begin with and then if the round becomes obsolete you have a large investment in a paper weight at that point. I like my 9mm it may not be the most powerful round but I have lots of chances finalize the situation.

It's probably being closed out because there's no demand for them. As others here have pointed out, other cheaper and readily available cartridges do the job just fine. I expect that .45 GAP will be increasingly harder to find (and more expensive) as time goes on. A cheap gun chambered for an expensive and hard to find cartridge isn't my idea of a bargain.

Good points. As long as you reload, it's not as much of an issue. The optimum bullet weights are different. The 45 GAP uses a small pistol primer, where the 45 ACP uses a large one - this is not a major concern. Once you have a set of dies and a shell holder, you have them forever. IMO, the brass availability is the only major issue for reloading. Spare parts for the Glock is a different issue.
