Oh, don't get me wrong. I think deadly force was necessary here. Had someone attacked a friend that was answering the door to my home, I'd be condition red as well.
I just wonder about the amount of force (read # of shots) and the possible reload & continued fire that seems to have taken place.
I'd like to see the investigators report, but that won't happen...

I hear where you're coming from on the number of rounds used. That may have very well been a result of intoxication.

Re: fists as deadly weapons- Before we moved to TX an altercation outside a bar in Snohomish, WA resulted in a punch being thrown which knocked the recipient to the ground. He hit his head on the sidewalk and subsequently died of head injuries. After having been knocked unconscious for 8-10 min. by a impact from a vehicle, and head injuries being cumulative, I'm not about to let anyone hit me. I'm too fat and busted up to run and too old to duke it out.

Yep. There ain't a street thug out there that I can handle in a fist fight. If I could they would laugh him right out of the gang. I have not had one in 35ys. They don't go that many days. After he beats you unconsious, what keeps him from steeling your gun & maybe using it on you first.

He wouldn't even have to steal my gun. He could just keep kicking me in the head. I suppose that age and physical condition figure into the disparity of force equation. I would prefer to exit the scene if that were an option, but I can't run any better than I can fight with my hands. I can fight pretty well with my friend Mr. Steyr.

An update on the original story in this thread:
No criminal charges filed in man's shooting death
A Lubbock grand jury declined to file criminal charges in connection with the shooting death of Ronald McNabb.
According to police reports, McNabb, 23, was shot while fighting with another man on July 24.
McNabb arrived at a home in the 4400 block of 59th Street about 2:30 a.m. to confront one of the residents, 23-year-old Dax Dodd, according to reports.
But McNabb began beating 28-year-old Eric Housch when he answered the door, apparently mistaking him for Dodd, police said.
Dodd, who lived at the house with Housch, retrieved a gun from his bedroom and fired several shots at the pair, striking McNabb multiple times and Hosch once in the leg, police said.
An ambulance took McNabb to University Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
Housch was taken to Covenant Medical Center where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.
