I was bothered by that as well - it seemed ironic
BUT after seeing way too much absolute idiocy at gun shows I actually feel safer knowing that some of the attendees dont have loaded weapons on them.
Gun shows around here tend to attract people that appear to rarely get out of the house...

Concealed means concealed. And if a gun range is not posted 30.06, I will carry concealed into it. If I plan to shoot my carry piece at the range, depending on the range and how picky they are about such things, I just go to the bathroom first, unholster, clear the weapon, place it in my range bag and then head to the firing line.
I rarely shoot ALL of my handguns at the same time anyway, so I usually try to at least have a loaded pocket gun on me even while at the range on the firing line and even when the range is "cold". Again, concealed is concealed. No one else needs to know about it. Having it concealed on a cold firing line at a range is no more dangerous to me or anyone else than having it concealed anywhere else in public.
And it will stay concealed unless something like THIS happens ...

Shooting ranges are not lunatic-free zones anymore than any other place. Someone willing to kill themself and their own son probably wouldn't think twice about killing me too if the right wire in their brain snapped.
Some may disagree with my personal policy to not go "unarmed" on a cold firing range. A range may kick me out and ban for life for doing so. But just like many other grey areas of concealed carry, I'll keep mine concealed and accept the consequences if "caught".

That story about the Mom killing her son, she was already banned from that Range for acting weird.

Banned? Banned? What was she doing there if she had been banned? Gee, did anyone call the range police? Tell her she couldn't be there? See you can't be too careful bans don't work.

She was banned by the staff, it just shows poor management by the range staff. But yes banning rarely work.
Then again I've banned several people from my Shop, and I keep records. Had to call the cops a couple of time to get people to leave.

On the range i work at here in San Antonio we ask that if you are a CHL holder, then make sure the gun is concealed. The "removing the gun in the bathroom" idea is a good one, and by the way- legal. The folks that come into the range and show us their concealed handgun, from their concealed position, are in all actuality breaking the law, and not impressing us in the least.
Many times folks will try and actually open carry (i have permission from the owner as an RSO to open carry) all we do is ask that the mag be removed / cylinder emptied.
Always good to keep it where it belongs in any given situation!
