Keep in mind the article about NC said not only could not SELL guns due to the emergency, but could not even carry such off your property due to such. If there were an emergency, I certainly would want to be carrying in a time like that.

GC 433.045 states that
A directive issued under this chapter may not authorize the seizure or confiscation of any firearm or ammunition from an individual who is lawfully carrying or possessing the firearm or ammunition.

(b) A peace officer who is acting in the lawful execution of the officer's official duties during a state of emergency may disarm an individual if the officer reasonably believes it is immediately necessary for the protection of the officer or another individual.
To the best of my knowledge, these provisions have never been put into effect in Texas. In that case, the obvious contradictions have not been tested in court.

(c) The peace officer shall return a firearm and any ammunition to an individual disarmed under Subsection (b) before ceasing to detain the individual unless the officer:

(1) arrests the individual for engaging in criminal activity; or

(2) seizes the firearm as evidence in a criminal investigation.

Yes.

That law was passed in 2007, in the first legislative session after Hurricane Katrina. I think the legislature was trying to make it absolutely clear that the police could not disarm people at whim.

Of course, they can do it anyway. All you can do is sue them later.

I reported the Baytown ban here:

But it did NOT end on September 15th. As referenced by the previously linked minutes, the ban was not lifted until October 3rd.

Of course, such a local ban was preposterous. All one had to do was buy outside the city limits.

As we loose power up here about 6 times a year, my wife bought me one very similar to this one for Christmas 2 years ago:

But mine has shortwave bands and am/fm instead of TV + weather band. I'm glad I have this one, as the TV bands have gone away since HD channels came into being last year.

The hand crank is great! 5 minutes of cranking gets you 30 minutes of radio. I've used it a LOT since I've had it.

According to some guests on "Gun Talk" this may bar the town from receiving any federal funding because of a recently passed federal law. They suggested people contact their leadership in the town and inform them of this.

Thanks Jim, you are exactly right about being able to do nothing about a confiscation until later.

We had a crank radio that had all the bands (radio freq.ranges) we needed...

I would have likede to have had one that had a USB, and a cell phone charger plug on it to take care of a few things...But in the end we managed ok...

Jim, we got a few months before the stormin' season begins...Gimme a holler, and we'll go foraging for some stuff for your preparations...

As I am begining to phase in some redundancy to our "table of contents" at Casa Steve's, We can help each other out...No problemo...

That solar cell phone charger looks good. After Ike in Galveston, cell phones were the first form of communication to come back online, before the electricity.
