Thanks for the replies.
I noticed a few said that $18.95 for 50 rouds was pricey, but it looks like the lower priced suggestions were for FMJ. I'm looking for Hollow Point (JHP) for CCW and this was the best price I could find on the internet. I've been buying FMJ at Academy for about $10/box, although I was able to stock up a few weeks ago when they ran the $7.99 sale.

One more thing, are the Sellier and Bellot brass casings? One of the responses led me to believe they might be steel. I really like brass.

Thanks.

It will depend on which ones. They make both. The ones I got were steel casing that was "brass washed" (??).....thin coat of brass on the outside of the steel to prevent rust. Even the instructor said he had never seen S&B to do that...BUT it was very good. 1,000 rounds and no failures at all. Ammo to go had it for like $8.95 a box back then (about a year and a half ago).
I just went to ammunitiontogo website and looked at the ammo you mention. I am going to guess this is the same variety, because if you look at the other S&B JHP for $23.99 it specifies brass, and the color is brighter gold. I wouldn't hesitate to try the $18 stuff myself.

I love S&B ammo. It's consistent and pretty clean. Much better than WWB, IMO. WWB is obviously cheaper, price wise. S&B rifle ammo is very nice shooting stuff - accurate and consistent. It is what I use for hunting in my Mosin Nagants.

As for WWB, I use it mainly because it's cheapest. It's good for plinking and drills. I will say that the only squib I've ever had was from a 9mm WWB bulk pack. As others have noted, It's dirty stuff, though Monarch is the worst stuff I've come across for dirty ammo. Judging from the cases I've tumbled, it seems that CCI/Speer/Blazer is the cleanest stuff I've come across. Magtech ain't bad, either - and the brass is nice and slick.

I'm amazed to hear all these WWB is horror stories. Never had a clue people were having problems with it. Is it caliber specific? Date specific? I have some .40 but it is older, predates the ammo shortage. .223/5.56 bought during the shortage works great. And .380 bought during the shortage works great so far. Haven't seen it, thus not tried it, in 9mm. I think i've shot it in .38, but honestly don't remember.

I have seen problems with WWB over the last five years. I think it's due to Winchester having a lot of Government business and maybe they have let their QC on their "budget" line slip. UMC , American Eagle, and Blazer have stayed reliable. I don't know the answer.

S&B is good ammo. I have 1k rounds of 9mm I have been working through for a month or so. I have never had a problem ONE with WWB though. I have also shot, Fiocchi, Aguila, Privi, and Monarch without any real problems. The only thing I have had happen was a stuck case in one of my ARs. It was a steel Monarch case in 5.56 and when I got it out the rim of it looked distorted or defective.

I think the $18 price for JHP is good, but self defense ammo is not where I would be looking to save money.
