What in the world are you guys doing that gets you singled out so much? I've been stopped once in the last 10-15 years and as soon as the LEO realized he was in the wrong he got back in his car and took off. I was thinking that maybe his dashcam was on and just wanted to get outta there as quickly as possible. lol
Ok, I was sort of thinking the same thing. In my 34 years of driving, I've been stopped four times, only once in the last 22 years. And I'm a pretty aggressive driver with a lead foot and I'm usually in a sports car of some sort. I guess I've just been lucky.

at the risk of turning this into a fry's thread...

they dont check everyone. and when they do they dont check very well. Three years ago i was charged twice for a dvd, i didnt catch it and the 'greeter' didnt catch it. When i called the manager for a refund, he refused- told me his inventory matched his sales.

the point is, when im forced to shop at frys, they dont inspect my stuff. Depending on my mood and the inpectors attitude they either get a no thank you or something else containing a four letter word.

I spend about 125k a year on computer stuff and i would say frys lost aobut 80k worth of business over a 9 dollar dvd and their process of inspecting everything.

Sewer_Ice wrote:I think that it's important to mention that at FRY's, THEY CHECK EVERYONE! They're not singling you out because you look like a thief, they do it for everyone. Also, another reason they do it (this has happened to me) is to make sure your walking out with everything you paid for. I was building a computer once and the memory I paid for wasn't in the cart...

Wouldn't it be better to be called and given an opportunity to pay up a fine (seems like the LEO is going above and beyond the call of duty to give you yet "another" chance by making the call...) than have a warrant issued?

As for intrusive scenarios at various stores, I really dislike being asked for my address, blood type, mother's maiden name, etc., (OK, I exaggerate a little) at Radio Shack. In the past I've had a few ugly responses when I told them I not required to divulge that information. That they would then act indignant at my refusal to give out personal information is really a hoot!

Or, Academy's non-stop pestering me for my zip code - which I now respond with: Make one up!

Or, being asked at Petsmart or Petco as I pay for my purchases, if I would donate money for their various charities. I find that extremely offensive. I detest being guilt tripped at the register for the stores favorite charity. Especially, since all three of my critters are rescues and cost me a small fortune in vet expenses, food, care, etc.

Without being obnoxious, I do let them know I find it offensive. I let all stores know when they go over the line - I usually politely ask for the manager and let them know of my response. It's not the clerks fault for the store policy of pestering their customers, but the manager can pass this nonsense up the chain of command, if you will...

Not everyone has the time or inclination to let stores know when they go over the line, but if more of us let them know how offensive such tactics are, it may in time be scaled back.

While I do understand why Walmart spot check for theft, I don't like the implication. Since it's never happened to me, it'll be interesting someday if it does as to whether I'll cooperate or not. Since, I don't shoplift I've nothing to worry about.

I lived in Coppell, mostly Rich to Upper-middle class. they have a very...enthusiastic police department.
My "crime" was driving this carImage
that was missing almost all of its paint (Darn Dodge Used some cheapo primer and almost every Neon you see from 96-97 is missing paint.)
First time getting pulled over, it was 2 am, it was raining and I was at wendys, my windows were down because the car's AC didnt work and it was the only way I could defog the windows. Officer pulled me over (In the parking lot) because my license plate frame was covering the top part of the T in the Texas on the license (I kid you not) So I ripped the License plate holder off and asked the officer if it was better. He also accused me of smoking pot, because why else would my windows be down, he asked to search the car, I told him "No, because theres nothing in the car but a Spare tire and a Wendys Bag (I had just got it)
Second time I got pulled over was because the Officer had seen a White Car go by MacArthur and Moore very fast, seeing as there was a white Mustang in front of me and I drove like an old lady, I think he was mistaken, and told him as such, I got a warning.
Then I got pulled over in the Tom Thumb parking lot for having a Brake Light out (It wasnt the office said it just looked "Dim")
Then I got pulled over for expired Inspection, but it was expired it was the last day of the month
Then I got pulled over for expired inspection 2 days later by the same cop, I told and showed him my failed inspection (Car was over heating)
Then I got pulled over for not having my lights on, but I did, I got a warning
Then I got pulled over for "Suspicious behavior" because I dropped a friend off on Halloween night at his house, saw there was a Cop on MacArthur so I went the other way in the alley around him, and then he floored it and pulled me over. Asked if I had been drinking and why I had stopped where I did, I got a warning.
Then they got me REAL good for speeding, they said I was going 60 in a 40, the truth was I was going 80, but I thought I was still in Grapevine!
Then once for my windows being down in the rain, got accused of smoking pot again, told them I was just hungry and I work late (At the old United Artist)
Then I had that car crushed for parts and bought a Van, didnt get pulled over at all and havent since.

Its just an option at the register, I dont see the big deal. The save millions of animals a year from donations. Its like complaining that Charles has a link to Miniature Schnauzer rescue on this website.
Also its the stores ONLY Charity, the reason alot of those rescue groups are around is because Petsmart gives them, money, food, or space or outside the store. All you have to say is no thank you. Same as when I go to Randalls and they ask if I want to donate money for breast cancer or whatever. Even McDonalds will ask you if you want to donate to Ronald McDonald House. The Goodwill has Santa, and the Local Fire deparment will go on the Corner trying to Fill a Boot. America gives more money to charity than any other nation, because we are a nation of "Sellers" thats how capitalism works, baby! :anamatedbanana

:smilelol5: :smilelol5: :smilelol5: ... I noticed the same thing and have been dying to ask the same question. I have been wanting to get stopped ever since I got my CHL so I could show it off to a police officer. I can't get pulled over to save my life. :biggrinjester:

This thread makes me think of the the Chris Rock sketch about "How not to get your 'backside' kicked by the police". Adult humor and language for sure, but actually it is good advice! It is available on Youtube.

I probably just jinxed myself. No problem though...from some of the post I read, I am thinking the cop will let me off because I have a CHL. I feel sure that is how it will work. :biggrinjester:

"Its just an option at the register, I dont see the big deal."

It's not as simple as 'just an option' - It's being importuned at a time when I have my wallet out.

I detest the question, the timing and overall creepiness of being begged.

Dress it up and call it whatever you care too and then justify it - It's still being begged from while one is a captive audience.

You may not see "the big deal', but it offends me mightily!

Throughout the year, I give quite a lot to charitable causes, but the giving originates with me, not from being pestered by others.

I would suggest that learning how to politely and firmly decline answering questions, when the individual asking the questions has a weak or non-existent rationale for getting answers, is an important skill to develop in this time and place. This goes for traffic stop situations as well as more common interactions, such as retail transactions and encountering nosey neighbors.

Should "No comment" and "Am I free to leave" be well-rehearsed and ready, while otherwise observing protocol and providing information for legitimate requests? I have no objection to rolling down a window, turning on a dome light, keeping my hands on the steering wheel and providing licenses and proof of insurance upon request, or an awkward silence after a fishing question. If this is more likely to get me a ticket than a warning or a catch and release, so be it.

Just following orders.

IANAL, but MWAI [My Wife Almost Is]. I am not suggesting that you lie to the police, but you could always say that you are retired or self employed.

I quit stopping at Fry's and I haven't stopped at the Wal Mart (or similar) door alarms for years. I just keep walking.

One day I'm going to take off running as soon as it goes off, then let them catch me "rlol"
