heh, I went to my very 1st gun show in late '94 or early '95 in Des Moines, Iowa. There I made my 1st rifle purchase (although not my 1st rifle). I picked up a Norinco NHM91 AK with the 'sporter' stock. Paid about $200 for it, not to bad by today's prices. So I suppose it didn't take too long for things to settle down for the 'non-controlled' items. I was oblivious back then. I didn't even know there was a ban until I asked about the *other* AKs, those 'pre-ban' AK's going for 2-3X that.

I think HK91's were affected by an earlier 1989 ban on import of "non-sporting" firearms. If I recall, ban was implemented by a re-classification by ATF of the HK (among others) as "non-sporting" under the 1968 Gun Control Act.

You still can't buy a real imported HK91 even though the idiotic 1994 law expired.

You're right; HK91's and HK93's went from around $380 to over $800 when George H.W. Bush signed the "assault weapons" import ban. Then they went through the roof with the Clinton gun ban of 1994.

Argh - don't use that term, please!
So my dad went out and bought some semi-automatic rifles that were not in fact assault weapons because they weren't fully automatic and he didn't have the correct FFL license to possess said fully automatic weapons. :biggrinjester:
Actually, I prefer "sport-utility" rifles. I have no assault weapons... mine are for sport and utility only.
